Title: 1h Battle Axe vs Broad 1h Battle axe? a poll
Post by: Penitent on October 19, 2011, 10:47:32 pm
Here's a somewhat meaningless poll...but I'm wondering what people think.

We have two very similar weapons.  One does 1 more damage, but the other has 3 reach and slightly less upkeep.

The broad one seems to be in a higher tier, but I hear people saying the normal 1h battle axe is better.  This will finally decide what the public thinks.

AXE BATTLE CAST YOUR VOTES.

You'll have to come very close to hit anyways, so the 1 dmg seems better, especially at high damage levels for 1h like 37c

I actually possess and use the Broad 1h battle axe MW version , 3 range is not worth mentioning  on such low range weapons  ,

MW the broad axe has a lovely 38 cut!  so i say Broad all the way

M8, that small length difference is nothing. If you know how to play, you can even out reach a 2h with 95weapon reach weapon =D

So definitely go for Broad One Handed Battle Axe!

See, I'm actually thinking the other way.
On a very long weapon, you won't notice the differnce in reach (say, 165 length vs 162 or something).  But on a shorter weapon, it may make more of a difference.

Interesting results so far!

I also have a +3 broad axe and once you learn it well enough the reach doesn't bother you since you use a shield anyways you can take a hit or two while you close range.

i would consider using the longer one if it didnt look so stupid.  broadaxe is a great weapon though

I never found the range difference noticeable so i saw no reason to chose the 1h battle axe over its broad counterpart.

I think the a comparison between the Iron War Axe and the Broad is more interesting. I find I get through shields a lot faster with the Iron War Axe and the speed and length seem to through people off, I find I land hits that I normally would not land because I just seems to sail through the air instead of haul arse. I think people expect a feint and then it just crashes on in.

These "off-timing" hits don't work for very long usually. People adapt to your speed after a few miserable deaths.

It comes down to a ath-agi advantage, not how do you play. No matter your skill, you will not outreach a decent 2h that has the same agi and ath as you with any 1h axe.

Mighty Broad One Handed Battle Axe
weapon length: 73
weight: 1.8
difficulty: 12
speed rating: 99
weapon length: 73
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 38 cut
slots: 1
Bonus against Shield

i think my opinion is clear.

Well looks like the broad axe camp is in the majority (and more expressive) but there is a significant minority that like the standard 1h axe.  55%/45% at the time of this post.

naw, those are just trolls who dont like people who use good axes, and so they vote for the poopy one in the hopes that more players will use it instead of the good one.
conspiracy revealed.

Not that I use either but I'd go with more damage. The length is only 3 more for 1 less damage which you're honestly not going to notice too much with short weapons since you're going to want to get in close. So spring for more damage for great justice!

I switch between two weapons generally (neither loomed since I spent all my point on armor and crossbow/bolts)

Iberian mace when there are lots of metal on the other team
and

battle axe when more shields then usual. I like the 3 extra length.. the 1 damage does not matter really. Also lower repair cost.. Win/Win all around.
