Title: Sell weapons for zero gold
Post by: Draggon on October 18, 2011, 09:31:55 pm
Made a couple of swords with 45% crafting skill discount in a castle with -1 prosperity, then moved to a city with +2 prosperity and sold the swords but didn't actually receive any gold for the sale.  Total loss = 360 gold.

Yeah, they sell for 0 and selling them in distant towns offers no bonus. I don't think they are even supposed to get the faraway bonus because that would be ridiculous as all hell.

Lol, damn - in that case the option to even sell gear in towns shouldn't even be there then.  Just confuses players.

If you get a lot of crap from the enemy that you won't use, it would be nice to be able to sell it and buy crap that you will use

From chadz post named... Strategus for dummy...

Whats wrong with this strategus? Last round I got gold for doing nothing, why doesn't that work any more?
Because it was silly. Strategus will reward those spotting and using chances, not those sitting in a town waiting.

Therefore, you now have several ways of getting money, some are more, some are less profitable.
Sorted:
Begging (gives you one gold per hour up to 35 gold, overrides visiting fee)
Crafting Goods and
 - selling them to the fief you are in (low profit)
 - selling them to professional traders (medium profit [estimate])
 - selling the to faraway lands (high profit)
Crafting Items and selling them
- to the town (medium loss, probably the most silly option of em all)
 - to other players (can be very high profit)

Yeah I had read that before, but it still doesn't explain why there's an option to sell gear to npc vendors that you don't receive a dime for. =/

If you get a lot of crap from the enemy that you won't use, it would be nice to be able to sell it and buy crap that you will use

This however, is the best explanation I've heard for it.  It's more like a "trashcan" option.  you don't get any money back, but you can ditch some unneeded stuff.  However, the link to do so shouldn't be called "Sell" since you're not selling shit, just giving it away.  More like "Goodwill" or something - lol.

To the town for medium loss still suggests you would get some money back.

Yes , you are supposed to sell the weapon for 20 % of his cost. So if your smithing skill is maximum you have 80% discount and you are supposed to sell it for the price you crafted it. If it isn't maximum you loose money , but get some cash.

Ah ok, this I did not know.  Interesting.

Well it's definitely not working then because I paid of course to craft the items, and then when I sold them I got zero back - and they were crafted at 50%.  So in reality I should've gotten back 62.5% of my original crafting cost.

Yes, you can sell weapons you bought for 20% of the cost, not weapons you craft.
