I am thinking of looming it. Seems far and away the best 1hander. convince me otherwise if i'm making a mistake.

its ok if suiting your style. props for the girl.

Elabourate please.
-
well she´s dam cute alright.
and the messer is medium range, damage and speed. so its a good all rounder but you just gotta know what your looking for. thats why you cant appoint a "best" weapon.
-
What 1h has and the other "classes" don't, is a fairly well balanced spectrum of weapons.
IMO, the Knighty Arming sword or the Nordic champion sword are the best allround swords. They're perfectly useable on foot and from horseback, deal enough damage to kill people, have long range (for a 1h), have 4 useable attack directions and they look good.
The downside would be the relatively low(er) speed compared to other swords.
The langes messer is pretty good. It's very useable in melee, fast enough, hits hard enough, but has less range. It's harder to use from horseback, but other than that, no real disadvantages.
Best way to pick a weapon for yourself is to try them all. Pick a sword and play a day with it. If you don't like it, you can try a different one.

If you want to take the best use scimitar/elite scimitar.
It has decent damage, decent range, decent speed and the powerful scimitar-bonus of being harder to block.
For style reasons langes messer is far superior.

Trade Secret:
Langes Messer is a great weapon, one of the most ideal slashing weapons and a very good thrusting weapon with the ability to be used 2h.
The other great 1h sword is the Italian sword which is longer, faster, and has a superiour stab at the cost of some slashing damage.
The best axe is the one handed battle axe which is fast and long.
EDIT: Iberian Mace is also quite win.

Langes is a very good weapon. You will not regret looming it. However, I don't think it's the best 1h. The best 1h is not a sword. The best 1h would be one of the blunt, pierce, or axes. They do the most damage, which is what 1-handers need the most imo.
But yeah, depends on your playstyle! It's a great sword for sure.

The main question is how do you fight with your one handed weapon?
Lot of stab? Long Espada Eslavona, Espada Eslavona
Lot of Slash? Grosse Messer, Warhammer
Only Slash? Steel Pick,Broad One Handed Battle Axe,
Quick/spam? Scimitar, Niuweidao
Close to your oponent? Italian Falchion
There a lot of funny weapon here...
The langes messer isn't the best one but, it's an excellent all rounder.
Good damage, good speed, good length. Will suit youlike it's suit everybody. And the day you will become a 2 handed warrior you will still have a good weapon (a little short maybe).
I love mine.

Scimitar.

Langes messer is a good weapon but IMO the best 1h is:
- Italian sword Cheap, fast, 34c dmg at MW, nice pierce damage, good reach. Nowadays, a large sword mean a lot of glancing and teamhits. 98 seem to be nice.

It's 33 damage, isn't it? Just making sure.
-
^ Yeah with 30 base cut I'm p sure its 33 cut when MW.
I love my MW Langes Messer. At the risk of saying I was using it before it was cool I've been using it for awhile with my shielder and have recently noticed an uptick in it's popularity. Masterworked it's a quick 99 speed, and it does a whopping 36 cut damage with its swings. 92 reach is a bit shorter than some of the others, but I have very few problems sticking with people even with only 4 athletics.
It's a sexy weapon and a good all-rounder, especially for people who don't use thrust attacks as often as their other swings. Get 7 or 8 PS and you'll hit like a truck. It's also useful as a sidearm for archers, although I find it a bit short for dedicated 2h users.

True, but it's rather expensive to use it as a sidearm.

To be honest I loose money with this equip:
Studded leather coat
Mail gauntlets
cheap hat
Cheap boots
Rus bow\hornbow
Bodkins\or 2 pack of bodkins
Mace
With crazy chances to arrows break - I'll loose 2-4K for 1 hour of playing. Change mace with Langes - and you'll loose even more.

Without considering your playstyle/abilities and looks:
Knightly Arming Sword - by far.

I loomed that beast.

Hmm...I always measure a weapons usefulness by 4 catagories. Length, damage, speed, and special abilities (or x-factor). The very scientific measurements I use are the following ratings (from worst to best): Worst, Poor, Fair, Good, Great, Best.
Knightly Arming Sword:
Length: Best
Damage: Fair
Speed: Fair
Special: none
Langes Messer:
Length: Good
Damage: Good
Speed: Good
Special: none
Langes is more "balanced". Knightly has the advantage of reach.
You guys like my rating system? :)

<3 my long espada - it's probably the easiest 1 hander to track and block though. You have to rely on its deceptive range against good manual blockers.
-
I can't RECOMMEND looming Espada Eslavona but I can tell it's awesome to stab your 2h/pole opponent to face as an opening move when they don't expect the reach it has. Long Espada obviously has longer range, but normal has even more stabalicious power.

Because you are a black guy with arabian clothes using an huscarl shield and it really fits your theme.

What do you think of the Italian sword?

Gets extra points for style, looks and the sheath.
