Title: Clarify nighttime timezone a bit?
Post by: Matey on October 10, 2011, 12:40:27 am
according to strat... GMT -6
according to crpg... GMT -8
and yet im Mountain time which is GMT -7

could make it so it makes sense... OR just have it say in strat "-6 current time = XX:XX"

What does the nighttime even mean? Is it just whether or not a battle will be fought under cover of darkness?

Armies cannot be attacked during their nighttime, if you attack an army at such a time, it will not be 24 hours later but 24 hours + however much nighttime is left. Which could be up to 8 hours and ruin your plans.

aye, twould be nice to be able to set my night time to what i want instead of having to guess at what the -6 really means... is it actually -6? or is it actually -8 like it says on crpg? or is it actually -7 which would mean i can set it without adding/subtracting hours to match my actual time...

Matey Strat night time is based on GMT and C-RPG is based on chadz time (GMT+2)

That's why you get that difference.

im bumping this cause it still confuses the fuck out of me.
crpg now says in -7 cause of EU time change...
and -7 is what my time zone is officially considered...
and strat asks me to set my time zone for gmt -5
so is it asking me to set it in EST? even though im not in EST? or is it actually going off my time but saying the wrong thing?
please just add a "local time is XX:XX" on the strat thing so i can tell wtf time im setting my night time at.

On your character page, in settings it shows what is your real time, no? According to this it will set your night time (i'm may be wrong)

Night Time:
Starts at :00 GMT -5 and lasts hours.

Enter the difference between your local and the current server time 09:48:10.
Offset: -7

According to your current settings, the time where you live is: 02:48:09

I noticed this the other day when I decided I might actually try a battle for the first time but reading this thread actually just confused me even more.

The crpg time, which governs the battle time is understandable because it allows you to compare server time to your local time and get them in sync.

The strat night time display is AFU and confusing.  For example, mine now says GMT -3.  But I'm in GMT -4.
Much more sensible would be to specify what time GMT that you wanted night time to start.  Then it would be easy to set what local time you wanted night time to start.  If you were GMT -7 and you wanted night to start at 2300 local time, you would input 0600 GMT as the start of night time (0600-7=2300).

Right now my strat night time is set at 00:00 GMT -3.  I'm assuming (always dangerous) that that means 2300 in GMT -4 time zone.
