You got so many types of spartan builds, u got the more agil that uses awlpike (best damage wise weapon) with a lot of footwork and u got the str spartian that can use pretty much anything from awlpike to bamboo spear (pretty much any stab will hurt a lot) and you can be balanced between str and agi. Also when u can, aim ur stab at thr head. On top of that, u can either be half polearm half onehander or pure polearm.

Ill just post my build but u can play hoplite in so many ways, the best is to try out different builds.

The one im using atm: 24 str-15 agi
8 PS
5 shield
5 athletics
5 wm

All wpf to polearm. This allows me to deal good damage with a long poke to support my clanmates or if i need to solo, i can use any other polearms (when im tired of being hoplite) and just carry a shield around.
