First suggestion to spear weapons (except for long spear) is that they maintain high speed when they start a thrust attack, like a charging thrust attack.
Second is that is that spears could be changed into 1 slot instead of 2 so hoplites with huscarl shield could also have a 1h, or so people like me can use a spear+shield with an axe as a reserve weapon. And to compensate maybe decrease their stats by a little or something. Only bad thing i see with this is that archers would be able to use spears as their melee.

not a bad thing, considering that Archers can still carry 1h weapons that are better than the spear for "dueling"

I guess you have a point there, the langes messer can be deadlier in a duel. But still, it may prove to be a big advantage to some archers with the reach and all, but with no proficiency it might not work as good.

True. A crossbowan with a spear can defend himself against melee people. A crossbowman with a spear and shield would be fucked.

BUT, he would be anti infantry, anti horse, anti ranged.
The only thing he will be meh at is dueling with his shield on.

Not really. He wouldn't be able to do all of those at the same time. Although with some teammates and a proper commander.....

shield+spear users using huscarl can already use 1h weapons, theres plenty of 0 slot weapons to choose from.

i like the idea but if i am not mistaken the slot system was put in JUST so people could not do this(idk just saying)

Actually it wasn't that much against the 1h+shield+spear. It was against the longbow+2 quivers+ flamberge, the Huscarl Shield + 2 1handers + pike in your trousers, and the heavy lance, shield, poleaxe, throwing lances people.

If this would be changed, lots of new weapon combinations would open up for me :)

^idk his logic has merit...no doubt people will take advantage like these said examples

Weeel, the worst I can think of is a guy with a Lance, shield and warspear, or a huscarl, 1h and warspear, or maybe a bow, 2x quivers and a spear.
None of these are really that powerful, maybe not the last one. But then again, having a spear on the back gets in the way when you are shooting in 3rd person so it's not THAT good for archers. And they can already do it with staff/quarterstaff. Of course, they could go in 1st person mode but that makes them tunnel more and easier to sneak attack.
Of course I could be forgetting some very OP combination. Anyone can think of one?
It could also be fixed by not letting ALL the spears be 1 slot. Maybe just the ones that don't rear horses (which I find silly) like the "spear".
