Title: A humble question to the developers of this mod from a humble cRPG player.
Post by: Tomas_of_Miles on September 28, 2011, 09:39:28 pm
The title of this thread is not sarcasm. I would just really like a serious answer, with hopefully a serious explanation. I cannot imagine how much work it takes to put new armours and weapons into the mod, but what is the limitation on new armours and weapons entering into cRPG, and why is this?

I'd be deeply grateful for as full an answer as possible.

The reason I ask this is that I would love to see items from Roman, Greek, African, South American history. I'd also love to see 19th century nobility style clothes too. I'm not going to fill the boards with spam or pointless aggressive trolling. Just asking a question.

Thanks guys

None of the above will be added, too out of place.

In b4 Herald_Hardrata whining.

Undeniable fact that the cataphract is Roman, buddy. Eastern Roman Empire aka Byzantine, I would love for you to prove me wrong on that.

Protip: the poll did not say classical rome, and you said a blanket no statement to all roman things.

Just because we have out of place items doesn't mean we will be adding more indiscriminately.
And when I said we won't be adding any of those items I meant it in a general way.

Or only a Strategus Lord can wear it. I would love to see a bascinet with a crown like Lionheart's classic image.

The armor of the Byzantine Empire's bodyguard unit, Spartharii, should be added! Gold and silver. It would look absolutely fabulous.

There are no pictures, only written accounts. However, Stainless Steel for example has one interpretation of how they might've looked.

So the only thing that got you interested in the armour, excluding that one interpretation, is the fact that it's made in gold and silver?

Anyone else seeing this?

Awesome mod. 6.4 I assume?

Roman ARMORS! so I can be really out of time with my Horse Crossbow build. Or maybe a crown so I can show, I'm the king of NA HC's!

6.4 of course, with a little modification toning down those fucking heretics.

Well I must admit I am disappointed with the blanket "no", but I am not the one working on this mod so I can't truly complain. All I can say is that it is a shame those particular things seem out of place amongst Deli caps, samurai armour, black plate armour, flying carpets, morions, norman shields etc. I probably would have made a better point if I wasn't drunk but ah well. I'll cook my korma and eat it.

I'd like to see some very late Roman gear.  Much of it was medieval in it's general structural style (though often of a significantly different chemical make-up) but had a distinctively Graeco-Roman aesthetic.  I think it would work well as a proto-medieval series of armours and scratch, in a thematically acceptable way, the Roman-themed itch many players seem to have.

Also, for those curious, "cataphract" was originally written κατάφρακτος in Ancient Greek.

I'm aware that I used the modern Greek alphabet in this but the original characters are silly

... Gtfo with your gay pictures Siiem. The Spartans actually wore rather heavy armor, which gave them staying power in Thermopylae. If they were naked like that they'd have died in two minutes.

This would be too out of place? The helmet looks a *little* like the Chichak. The closest to Cavalier hats are the Straw Hat... and let's face it they don't look anything like each other. I can understand the logic behind the gears I suggested being "too out of place" but surely the English Civil War fits in "historically" and isn't too outlandish in look. I suppose I have another question for you devs. If someone were to make English Civil War style armours compatible with cRPG, would they be rejected?

First I thought that crpg should just REMOVE the weeaboo armor and weapons first and refrain from adding too out of place stuff.

Then I thought, what the hell. That hillarious ZULU troll clan needs a more african chestgear than sarranid robe and they should get a darker skin too. cRPG servers are already a mismatch of serious gear and hillarious gear and even with full serious gears having weeaboo, western european crossbowman, a turkish swordsman and an arabian cavalier fighting against common enemy looks out of place.
