I've never done this before..how do I join a battle or see what battles are going on? Are there even any happening right now?
I'm a shielder and I love holding a line and playing seige. I want to do something that "counts!"

They're currently down, but if you look at your Character Page, there's a tab up by Equipment and Settings that says Battles. The dev team might have a few test battles coming up that you can participate in to get a feel for it and help them out in the process too. They're gonna need a week or two to polish the game and work out some bugs, but it'll be back before you know it.
Would be a good time to set your character as your main, and change his timezone in Settings on the character page though, because when I first started trying to play battles, the times were 7 hours off and it confused the hell out of me, haha

Thanks!

when you apply for a battle I believe the row color turns tan, if you're accepted it then turns green

And once you're accepted...which server do you go in to? Do you have to go in at a certain time?

EU_cRPG_3 or NA_cRPG_3 and game type Strategus Battle. Time and server you can see in Battle tab in character page.

It'll say either NA or EU, the servers you join are NA_cRPG_3, and EU_cRPG_3, which are currently official duel servers. Most hosts will give you teamspeak or ventrilo information if they feel the battle is important enough, and ask that you show up for role call like 15 or 30 minutes before the battle. You'll see a column that tells you what time each battle is, so you know which ones you can show up to.
People usually join the appropriate duel server and whip each other with towels for 5 minutes until the server boots you. You'll get a message in pink that says ~ "A strategus battle is about to take place. Rejoin if you are fighting for a faction."

great info, thanks guys!

Also gonna say this, just to hammer the point in. Get TS and be on TS before the battle starts. Most clans have a rooster call to see who is there and then change the list accordingly. So if you're not on their TS you might be taken off the rooster 10 minutes before it starts. In the same way, you can also take the spot if someone hasn't shown up, so stay interested. You also should be high lvl. Very few are gonna use a slot on someone under lvl 25 for example. Helps to be lvl30 or more.

If you're looking to merc for a lot of clans, you should probably get Teamspeak, Ventrilo, and Mumble installed.

Get to know people. A lot of clans are hesitant to recruit randomers (and with good reason).
