Title: What Benefits Are There to Heirlooming Body Armor?
Post by: Blackstone on January 28, 2011, 06:33:52 am
From what I see, none.

Would you select Option (A) that is subject to $1,000 higher in repair costs for less protection?

Option (A) The cost of my Thick Heavy Strange Armor is now $17,060 (inventory selling price of $8530 is 50% of item cost) for 48 body armor and 23 leg armor.

Option (B) The cost of normal Heavy Strange Armor with normal Mail Gauntlets is $16,063 ($12,636 + $3,427) for 52 body armor and 21 leg armor, weighing 1.5 more (3 x 0.5 for hands).

Please let me know if I have a misunderstanding of any of the calculations, because I cannot see the benefits of heirlooming body armor.  Weapons yes, but not body armor. Already having a heirloomed weapon, I decided to heirloom armor and was shocked by the 35% increased item pricing for no benefits compared to combining normal items.

Heirlooming items has no effect on upkeep cost for that item.

You get +2 armor per heirloom so +6 body, +6 legs total. The upkeep costs stay the same.

If you're someone who likes to use different sets of armor (I know I do), heirlooming armor might end up with you being dependent on it. Which is a shame, really. Reduces your versatility.

Yeah... I LOVE my Khergit elite, and wanted to try looming armor for the first time after that punkass Fasader took my shit. However, I'm starting to think that, with the vicious repair costs, that loom might've been better spent on a weapon.

I would suggest heirlooming gloves first, as they also protect the body. Once I'm done with my weapons I'll probably go gloves > shield > body armor.

Thank you for the replies.

If this is the case, than I retract my post. I assumed that since the sell price in my inventory was increased, and the sell price always reflects 50% of the purchase price, that my upkeep costs was than increased (which is calculated at 5% of the purchase price).

I appreciate the clarifications, and feel better now.  :)

Why gloves before body armor?

Because I like to switch up my armor sometimes, but I always wear my Red Wisby Gauntlets (unless I'm on a long losing streak). Gloves heirloom just like body armor. You just don't get any extra leg protection.

So +2 every heirloom? Aight.

And why do you wear such ugly useless gauntlets do not do that wear heavy gauntlets and be cool

Except for Leather Gloves, which only get +1 Body Armor per heirloom. All other gauntlets from Mail Mittens to Heavy Gauntlets get +2.

The only other gloves I would consider would be the Hourglass Gauntlets, but that red is too dark. If my gear doesn't stand out, I don't want it!

im gen 7, with Lordly Transitional Armor with Surcoat, and a heavy charger, the way i see it , if you heirloom weapons or low tier armor u will always use that weapon or armor other wise you feel its a waste... so i made sure mine was top tier so that i only bring it out at a X5 so it feels special
