Title: Game locks up every ~30 seconds
Post by: Rarity on September 19, 2011, 02:37:00 pm
Not sure if this is the right section to post in, sorry if I'm wrong

I just recently started playing this mod and found that every ~30seconds or so, my game would snag/lockup for a good 2 seconds or so... I've found this to be rather frustrating because I could be in the middle of fighting then suddenly the game stops, and when it comes back I am dead.

Is this a known issue or is there any known way to fix it?

Until then, I guess I'll stick with Native D:

hm... is your pc old and about to die?

to test, i'd set both music and sounds to disabled (you can do that in the warband launcher). see if it still happens.

AMD Athlon II x2 255 @ 3.1
Nvidia GTX 460 (2gb memory)
3gb memory (so little D:)
Win7 x86

And the sounds/music being turned off didnt seem to fix the hangup I was getting.
Not sure what it could be.

Scratch that, I turned sound/music off (It didn't save when I did it last night) and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Though not having sound is a pain, been a few times where a horse comes up from behind without me knowing.

Restart your PC when that happens.

Happens to me when I alt tab during huge fight and play with sound properties.

Uh oh, I alt tab all the time, so if that's the cause I'll be in a bit of trouble D:

Doing a seige with sound disabled in the config and the issue cropped up again, not sure if it was a fluke earlier or what.

Also before I turned the sound off the first time, it hung up for a bit then crashed out.
I think I'll reinstall tonight, but I dont know if that'll help at all tbh.

do you have 'load textures on demand' DISABLED from the game launcher menu?

stuttering like this can be from hard drive paging to gather new textures and load them into video memory.  Disabling 'load on demand' means your game initially takes longer to load but doesnt require hard drive DURING game play.

Also when alt tabbing do what I do.

I do atl + enter to put it into window mode, than you can safely alt tab out of it without any fear of issues you may get when alt tabbing from full screen mode. Works like a charm for me, warband has alt tabbing issues

I had to turn that off when I installed since it was crashing the game after opening credits.

as for Alt+Enter, I'll give that a shot, but I tried earlier without tabbing out at all and it was still doing it, idk.

-edit-

Tried having it windowed etc and it doesn't make a difference it seems.
though when having the sound disabled it does make the snags less frequent.

and a little recording, maybe it'll help incase my description of my problem sucked.

(First time is around 2:45ish)

Now, I did notice that whenever my music changed tracks the game would lock up without a doubt, which would mean it was an audio issue, but the thing is it even does that when I have sound disabled (and no music playing at all). just utter silence.
So I'm not exactly sure what in the world is going on.

check your power settings in windows, when his hard drive set to power down/sleep?  I would have this at minimum of 30mins if you are a gamer

also.  u need more metal sounds & banner pack badly!

I took care of that a long time ago xD

"Turn off hard disk after: 2000000 Minutes"
I was having issues with my 2nd hdd turning off while I was playing games and inbetween games I would be checking that hdd to watch shows etc. annoying as hell.

As for the metal sounds and banner pack... what?

Kalam maintains a banner pack that you can install to see clans' custom banners.  They will replace the native banners.  In most cases they look much better.
http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,2990.0.html  (although my clans banner is in this one, its got some dumb looking ones too)

Arked maintains a pack of more historical 'vintage' somewhat authentic looking banners.  Silly ones not allowed

Ah, I see.

Well I'll worry about that once I get the mod to work right for me, as it stands now I can't really play it so having those would be a bit useless.

I assume you use onboard sound and not a dedicated sound card?

are you using updated nvidia drivers?
Title: Re: Game snags every ~30 seconds

Yes, I'm using onboard sound, Realtek if I'm not mistaken.

Current Nvidia drivers are, 280.26 which is what I am currently using.

DXdiag time maybe there will be some issues someone might catch that I didn't.
Though my sounddrivers are probably out of date, so I'll try updating those.

-EDIT-

Just updated the audio drivers from 6.0.1.6167 to 6.0.1.6449, lets see if that does the trick... something's telling me it wont but oh well.

well if you really wanted to rule sound out, you could disable the onboard sound in your bios temporarily.  i still think its a hard drive issue.  is your hard drive 4 years old or more? IDE or SATA?
Title: Re: Game snags every ~30 seconds
Post by: Rarity on September 24, 2011, 10:53:46 am
Less than a year, and sata. It's not the hdd, other games run fine, and the game native runs fine, it's just this mod that does it so I'd imagine it's something weird going on with the files and something else on my pc.

Maybe where the files are on the hdd is a bad sector but I highly doubt it.

-Edit-
Also, just tried with new sound drivers and it still locks up a bit.

also found this log file, I wonder if the mem issue is the reason :x though if that were the case, one would assume it would just stop working and not recover like it does... idk.

Alright, disabled my onboard sound in the bios and the issue still persists so I think I can safely rule that out.

So, I uninstalled/reinstalled, tried it on my other HDD, and the issue still persists... maybe I should just give up on playing this mod.

Rarity: Maybe I can help you:

Well, not me, but Socrates: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,14049.msg197133.html#msg197133 (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,14049.msg197133.html#msg197133)

Download the sound optimization pack, see if it helps you.

Holy patootie, that fixed the issue. was able to play ~30minutes today without it locking up once :D

Thanks a bunch <3

-edit-
Side note: I first tried it by installing both the optimization along with the sounds, which is what I said fixed the issue, but after I was curious, so I installed just the sounds optimization and the issue came back, so whether its the sounds and something with textures (you never know) or just the textures that cause it alone, I am unsure.
