Title: Can someone throw out a 1h w/ shield build?
Post by: orisue on September 19, 2011, 02:46:43 am
I'm totally new to the game itself and the mod. I kind of get the general idea of this mod. It's like a Mount & Blade MMO that ties into a browser to buy stuff/spend points. I want to make a 1h shield build. So can anyone give me a simple 1h w/ shield build? Also one question. Why buy stuff off marketplace if I can get it from like the game default store you know. Or are there items in marketplace like event items that can't be bought in the default NPC store.

edit. Actually do you guys recommend any "classes"? Mount & Blade's combat system is really hard for me. The arrow part and even fighting/blocking. I think I'll never get used to bows but with time I can get used to infantry swordsman or something. And no way in hell am I gonna use horses because it's impossible for me to hit anyone riding a horse. I kind of want to be fast but tanky.

This build looks good to me, I find WPF above 100 to be pretty useless so I always go 0WM.

The items in the store are what we call heirlooms. You get them once you retire at level 31.

As a new player, you should go for a build with a bit more wpf as you have to take into account that weight and/or a slow shield will decrease your wpf. I would suggest going for a 21/15 or a 18/18 build, they are the best for beginners. 21/15 for harder hitting, 18/18 for more speed, agility, and shield durability

Did you just say that a shield will reduce your weapon prof?
Were has anyone ever said that in any of these threads ever?

Using a shield doesn't lower anything but movement speed and maybe feint speed(tied to shield speed). Exception are 1 1/2 hand weapons like bastard sword, katana and morningstar.

As per my testing (before the most recent patch) it doesn't effect feint speed. All shields move at the same speed, though they don't block at the same speed. 100 speed shields will block before they are fully raised and slow shields will block after they are fully raised.

Was trying to say armor weight would lower ones wpf, shield speed only effects run speed and block speed as far as i know

I feel like the cookie cutter 21/15 build is the overall best starting build.

Once you get the hang of things you might want to tweak from there, but you really can't go wrong with this one.

So WM is not needed unless you want to get more than 100 in some WPF?

Sort of. In order to unlock the full potential of your weapon you need about 100 WPF. However, you have to take into account how much your WPF gets lowered based on the amount of armor you wear. The heavier the armor, the more WPF you need to compensate.

Does WM lessen the reduction by armor on WPF?

Nope. Just adds more WPF.
