The ability for archers to traject their arrows over large barriers is sorely missing. Bows should have an alternative fire mode that reduces projectile speed in order the increase arrow drop
While indirect fire is next to useless in battle mode it is most certainly useful in strategus battles
Armys with lots of archers and lots of arrows could find this tactic insanely useful for attacking those pesky villagers hiding behind buildings. Indirect fire would also bring forth a whole new aspect of the game for archers. Rather than guesstimating the drop for arrows archers would have to calculate what distance requires what angle.

This can be the beginning of some epic archer mass volleys.
+1!
And to add to your suggestion:
3 modes as you toggle the indirect firing mode. Long / Medium / Short. Simple and easy.
-
Although I don't have any faith that we're going to have proper archer volleys in cRPG, the option would be nice. Sure add this, while we're at it, add fire arrows now that WSE seems to be picking up steam.
-
Hells yes...this would be fantastic for strat
-
Maybe just have early releases lose speed as well as accuracy? Then you wouldn't have to mess with weapon modes or anything, just release the shot earlier in the draw for reduced velocity. Like how it works in real life.
-
Awesome :D
-
This would be epic.
-
Really good idea indeed .
It would add more epic moments to battle.
-It'll also add QQ threads like "OMG Now my old friendchers can shoot without even seeing me !!!"- but anyway it'll be good methinks.
-
I don't play Strategus, so I don't know how useful this would be for the rest of us, but I see no reason for this to not exist.
-
I can just imagine Fallen doing this shit in pubs for massive lulz and TK.
100000x times yes.

We already have in Strat, one of our first village fights we found the place on the map where if you aimed at a specific chimney (some snowy map) and fired straight up, the dozen and a half archers could indirect the spawn, very impressive when we finally walked into the village and saw all the arrows pointing straight down like some messed up flowerbed.
This feature making indirect easier though, that would be nice.

yea i was defending that village battle lol it was epic... it looked like it was the persians blocking out the sun in 300 lol i got hit so much during those volleys
+1 to the idea also shovel

This would be very neat to see.

I got the idea from the comical peasant wars between brd and choas where brd on the opposite side of a building were killing people by throwing rocks up at a 85 degree angle and getting head shots lol
cannerys like lulz retrn fires

This nice suggestion deserves a bump in the name of the poster above.

Meh, I was thinking that the x function could be used to change arrow types instead.
-
That would also be cool. But no idea if possible.

Like whistling arrows for example? For alerting allies etc.
But that could be pretty annoying since every archer would do it constantly, or if you only gave every archer one whistling arrow. Alternatively only to archers who are lvl 31.
Whichever the case, I think I prefer an indirect firing mode over toggled arrow types.

I think he means different types of arrows, like Arrow,Barbed Arrow, Tatar Arrow and Bodkin Arrow.
-
I want arrowclouds like at agincourt.
-
So basically, arrow everywhere killing everything? I want plate that's arrow proof, you can kill the unarmored peasants.
-
Epic idea. Completely support it, eventhough I hate archers.
Would make groups of archers quite usefull in strat and siege games.
I used to curve throwing weapons over teammates into the enemy line and it would make sense if archers could do the same.
I think that due to the game mechanics, the arrows will do minimum damage on impact anyway.
-
YESSSSS.
+1 xinfinity
This idea has been at the back of my mind for ages every time I play on my dirty archer alt watch other archers very closely. I'd love this for archers, since opening the round with a horizontal-ish arrow round has always struck me with a bit of dissonance.
-
shameless self bump

+1 at the moment the Yumi is the only thing you can really use for indirect and its a bit of a mission.
All we need now is a flaming arrow so you can track it a bit better and light up the night.
Re do this thread with a poll.
-
Only if you can block high enough with a shield to prevent impossible to avoid head-shots while blocking.
-
i dont see how this can possibly be a negative thing. the only thing i have to add is that less power would be used launching an arrow at closer range, therefore short and medium ranged shots should have damage deduction in the ballpark of -2 damage per range ajustment, with long range being the same.
you also must realize that arrows launched high in the air are alot less accurate than arrows fired strait because they change trajectory and have alot more air time for wind deviation... which does not exist, but either way, it will be like trying to hit something half way across the map. this would be excellent, however, for large crowds.

Bump for buttocks
-
In my experience, an indirect pointing up with 156 wpf and a mw rus will produce a shot pattern after 30 arrows of about 4 meters deep and 5 meters across. Shave off a meter to find the closely clustered majority not counting straglers.

Why X? X is my kick button. or maybe add an option to change the key for it.

Uhmmm. X is already used for changing weapon mode (from throwing to melee or from 2h to halfswording) so it would just be whatever you have changed the "change fire mode" button to.
