Title: The scamming situation.
Post by: Leesin on September 11, 2011, 04:05:40 am
Can you, if possible, add an option to sell Heirloom points on the market so we can have less threads on the forum about people who were extremely naive to trust a stranger on the internet.

If not possible, can you make it a rule that if people are scammed because they trusted someone they shouldn't have, they can go post it in a name and shame thread for all to see, which could be a stickied thread, rather than having several people all making threads on GD, QQing about it.

I believe this market causes more trouble than what good comes out of it...

I believe that it has done much more good then harm, and that we naturally hear more about the scams then we do about the nice happy transfers. "The Squeeky Wheel gets the grease" is a saying where I am from that applies rather well to this.

I still can't get over how cute that avatar is Dach

yes. I guess the problem is that trading with "heirloom points" was never intended when opening the market.

But since it does no harm other than this scamming and there is neither reason nor method to prohibit it effectively it would be only good for all involved to make it open and accessible for everyone.

Scams should just be a part of the game like everything else, if you are dumb enough to get scammed it's your fault.

Here is a short guide, how not to be scammed:

Step 1) Exchange your item for an item of equal value. If you want your +1 Item (Item A) upgraded, get a +1 Item (Item B) in exchange for yours from the person.

Step 2)  The dealer puts +2 ITEM A up for trade for +1 ITEM B and the amount of cash he wanted.

This ensures that you always have insurance. If the other person doesnt come through. You lost a +1 item, you gained a +1 item and didn't lose any money.
If the dealer doesn't have any loomed items to trade, this might be a shady guy, don't trust him.

This is how i've always done it too, that OR you know the person well/they have a good rep in community.

Also I kinda don't trust anyone whose forum account has been open for less than a month, I just make that my own personal rule xD

How about instead of scammer names put a list of trustworthy people? I sold like tons of loompoints and no issues so far

because there are by far less scammers than trusted people. the list will be too long.

People who want to buy heirloom points simply need to spend 2 minutes doing a bit of background history on the seller tbh, it's pretty simple.

If you search my name in marketplace for example, you will see a whole page of lovely, clean, locked (unlike poophammer) threads.  You can read said persons posts, to see who they are, if they are in a well known clan etc etc...it's all there, you just gotta look.  Like Meow said, you don't just hand over your car keys to some guy selling flyers at your front door.

I think he meant along the lines of the MMO Eve. Where scamming is part of the game and has been for years. I don't like the idea either but its not exactly a new concept or even all that dumb.

This isn't EVE Online. EVE Online is for nolifers, not for normal people with jobs and such...

Agreed. I tried playing EVE and found that even I could not keep up(also mining is literally three clicks every twenty minutes... Boring).

exactly... is not the fact about being "smart" "clever" or whatever. scamming is crap for MMO basement kids. the real retard is who put cRPG among EVE, lineage, WoW and that bs software that the only videogame part they share is a horrible graphic engine based merely on:
"oh i can't pwn that guy... i need better gear!. Hi dad, give me your credit card.. i need that flaming sword so much please! i said give it to me! oh crap the only option left to have that flaming elemental sword of retarded chaos is by finding someone to scam!"

i really hope we'll not subsitute that flaming elemental sword of chaos with lordly and MW gear
