Does anyone know if there is a Hoplite clan or any clan that supports phalanx style combat? As you can tell, i want to play like an ancient greek soldier.
-
RS used to, they still might goof off with you sometimes.
ATS was at one point a semi-spartan clan but isn't anymore...
The problem is that spear and shield in warband, no matter how organized and trained, is crushed by one simple act....
Downblocking.

i"d imagine that push kick in a phalanx would be more effective considering the multiple spears around you. It is pretty limiting how spears only have an underhand attack and not an overhead one as well. Could have added a bit more variety.

Phalanxes and Hoplites have been tried before, but because spears are inferior to just about everything else most people have stopped trying. Onimaho, Socrates and I used to be pretty good at using spears and shields in teamwork, but that was back when everybody used different weapons, and not everybody with a two handed weapon and a crossbow.
DOWNBLOCK <----- Downfall of spears.

Ever read the history of the Pelopponesian war? It's fascinating stuff.

Yeah. Spartans can't take an objective.

I'm making a lightly armoured hoplite type char with a tempered warspear, will see how it goes, and will try to resist buying a chopping general purpose polearm (which I on previous generations used for serious fighting). So far it's not so hot, but I'll reserve judgement until it's level 25ish.
If it fails to work on foot, I can always buy a horse, warspear on horseback works for stabbing people who're not paying attention.

Great days of old Stratia. Don't mind me just rambling my old self again. *Sigh*. Spear/Shield is effective if you have 2 people. One strafes around repeatly hitting while the other one stays stationary ensuring to force the enemy to stay at his front or he'll be poked chasing the other one circling around his block. I suggest playing this playstyle if you have friends and communicate well. IE Teamspeak/Vent and such works wonders.
