Title: Pike on horseback
Post by: Kafein on August 29, 2011, 02:20:39 pm
Before the last patch, selecting a horse and a pike would just lead to spawning on the horse with the pike dropped.

Now you spawn like if the pike was usable on horseback.

This works in battle mode.

This problem has been dragging trough quite a lot of patches now, its wonder how it didn't get fixed.

You get banned for using this on most servers.

But that's not a fix, why has it not been sorted yet?

Similar question, what is about long hafted blade on horseback?

It's a polearm and it can be used with both hands on a horse. People are swingin around with it (which shouldn't be possible) and it's the most weird animation i've ever seen, can't block that stuff.
It seems they can also hit behind them with the blade.

Shouldn't that be fixed as well already or bannable?

Huh, no, that is intended. I'm pretty sure you can block that as well.

Maybe, but it shouldn't be possible, that a polearm with 150 length can be used with both hands to swing around on a horseback :/

Then you can also make it possible to swing with the flamberge from horseback

So what about bows einstein ? You thought they were used by 1 hand only also ? If your logic makes sense according to bows used by 2 hands also should we use flamberge on horse ?

Exactly, let's remove bows from horseback, and crossbows too !
Hafted blade on horseback looks silly though, but they're easy to kill.

The hafted blade animations on horseback means they got less reach than 1h... Or so it seems to me, anyway.

pike on horseback does exist IRL btw, case in point the  Kontos of the Achaemedian and later Parthian catapracts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kontos_(weapon) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kontos_(weapon))

Quote
As shown by contemporary artwork, the kontos was about 4 metres long, though longer examples may have existed; later Parthian and Sassanian clibinarii (Middle Persian: Grivpanvar) reportedly used kontoi of longer lengths; only highly trained cavalrymen such as those fielded by the Arsaco-Sassanian dynasties could have used such weapons.

They were used to combat the longass sarissa of the macedonian phalanx

So make a special pike for cav available. Requiring 17-18 STR?

obviously, but is it really balanced that one pikeman is all that is needed to make a mass of infantry immune to cav? There has always been an arms race between infantry and cavalry in weapon length, infantry only won because it was far cheaper to equip 100 infantry than even 10 armored knights

Come on, do you really consider your post as intelligent or useful?

Using a bow is physically something completely different to swinging a hafted blade....and yes, ofcourse a bow is 2h, but as i sad, it's something completely different you have to do with your body than using a bow

The hafted blades are ok. They are less powerfull than 1h cav anyway.

they get -30% speed and damage, so they are ok
