Title: Would you like to see random plains or steppes added to map rotation?

Can we add one or two random plains or random steppes to the map rotations on one of the cRPG NA battle servers?

I know some people will freak out if they have to use terrain instead of buildings for their strategy, but I'd like to see cRPG incorporate some open field battles into the mix. Who's with me?

they've added 4 to the EU servers, we're trying to get more added, good luck to you...

well at the moment it's a rare treat to have a plains map, we want more but it seems we won't get any, we'll have to keep pushing... 8-)

Yeah I can deal with one random battle map (plain or steppe) out of the 100 or however many maps are played, i miss playing on random open field maps.

LOL "use terrain", you must be a equus africanus asinus rider. I don't blame you. If I was cav, I'd want some space too.

I would really like to see the random plains replaced with random steppes because it usually generates a smaller map with an OK amount of hills and plenty of cover.

I play cav and infantry.

I like open field battles because it requires teamwork for any success. Ifantry need archers and pikemen to protect against cav, also your own cavalry can be used to protect your footmen.

I just get tired of people camping buildings and corners. If you're that into buildings on every map there are these crazy game modes called "siege". I have no problems playing maps with buildings on them, I'd just like to see some variety.

I despise fighting cavalry half of the time, and I love open-plains maps to be sprinkled amongst normal maps. Why not?

He have urban crowded messes, and random villages, why not other stuff to spice things up?

Been supporting this for several months! Hope you get it implemented, seeing as they only put 4 plains maps out of 70 on the EU servers.

LOL, smoke another joint crack baby. I think you're shooting more for assumption than ad hominem. Ad hominem presupposes a knowledge of your past positions or biases. Assumption is taking something for granted, or guessing. Something we both did. I, by your admission did so correctly, you did so incorrectly.

Last time i wanted to play some building maps, i indeed went to siege just to face 3 plains maps in a row there (yeah, was temporary as they were sorting new list of maps, Punisher explained that to me in other post), but it still happened, so your "go siege" argument is rendered invalid. HA! :mrgreen: Also, some people might not like the siege idea and preffer battling (for instance: me).

I do mostly play infantry, i do not mind having to suffer thru some plains maps once in a while (suffer only if i play alone or with just a few reasonable people, if there are good people who knows what they do and/or some clanmembers, its difference), but i am getting tired of the cav lobbying for more and saying: Just do teamwork. Yeah, it is REALLY easy to organize crowd and both you and me know, that most of the pubby players will never listen to what you write and just headlessly charge/camp something.

Never expect anyone on the battlefield to help you or to play strategically, unless you know the people. ofcourse there might be some exceptions, but face it, not many.

What the people also seem to forget: we have several classes, each class enjoys different type of maps. There is plenty of space for cav on most of the village maps, so...

As a cavalry player I say NO to this, random plains/steppes are not fun for any class except cavalry and honestly I find them incredibly boring because people just mass pikes.
The maps should be balanced for all classes, so no random plains and this also means no city maps full of narrow corridors either.

The amount of random plains maps are the reason why I already don't play on official servers. I play this game to hit people with swords, not constantly dodge cav and the shitload of projectiles flying through the air.

To be honest, you'll never really get pubbies to use any sort of strategy anyway. I love plains for strat battles, but they are worthless for pub play.

I hopped into battle last night, and what glorious sight met me there? Random Plains!!!! Not a roof-top in sight, nobody wasted a slot with ladders, and there were no crappy buidlings for people to scurry into and leech.

I expressed mild (pleasurable) surprise, and wondered aloud how cavalry was doing in this fight. I got mixed answers of "raping me" or "being raped". I hopped on my powerful steed, took my javelins, mace, and shield to hand, and rode into battle with my friends. What I saw shocked me!

I saw groups of infantry following their archers to their hill. I saw archers focusing on clusters of targets that sprouted arrows like a bird sprouts his winter plumage. I saw groups of polearm users setting up where they could protect their ranged from any incursion. I saw players with shields sticking together and advancing with support from their ranged and cavalry, while 2-handers and polearmers followed closely, waiting to strike the moment the enemy was close enough. I saw cavalry circling the mass of enemy fighters, distracting the enemy and harassing any foolish enough to separate from their main troop.

What I didn't see : I didn't see archers survive when they separated from their troops. I didn't see cavalry survive when they stood still long enough for ranged to draw a bead. And I didn't see cavalry charging in and steamrolling anyone. Cavalry that mixed it up in the main mass either got dehorsed, or shot from their steed with ease.

It was a great time for everyone I think (though there may have been some disgruntled peasants, they generally died well before I engaged in close combat), and showed that when a team pulls together, there isn't a single OP factor in this game. Each troop type shines in it's situation. Cavalry did their best work when they could distract/separate, then attack. Infantry did theirs when they could stick together for protection. Ranged did theirs when they were supported by their team. Even with no rooftops, ranged got huge amounts of kills, but the "Range is OP" whining stopped for that battle.

TL:DR : Even in random plains maps, cav isn't OP, it's just what you make it.

Cav is pretty OP always, they always top the boards, cause they got maneuverability and can kill the unaware or otherwise engaged. Horses should get less maneuverability and more hp to fix this.

Ontopic: I like random maps, they are seldom the camp fest people say they are, atleast on EU 1. It's a great break from the roofcamping and one of the precious types of maps where tactics emerge. So I hope you NA guys get them too.

I like what Kofka said, though I feel for BADPLAYER. How awful for BP that infantry mass pikes, and he probably has to dodge the arrows. Not like the joyous fun of driving over some poor sod who's wandering the streets looking for the main battle, or skewering an archer who was really convinced he had some infantry watching his back. Of course, cav deaths are usually our own fault, as when cav and inf are aware of each other it's pretty equal- unless its a bloody plated charge that keeps running over you while it's rider hides behind his shield. But in towns there are no leaders, but I suppose on plains you gotta follow someone or you die.
