Title: Making chat smaller
Post by: Gorath on January 23, 2011, 12:49:08 am
1. Go to: mountblade warband\Data

2. open "font_data" as notepad

3. change "font_size" to a larger number for a smaller font, I currently use "100"

"<FontData width="2048" height="1024" padding="10" font_size="70" font_scale="100" line_spacing="100">"

100 was way too small for me, went to 80. Might go to 75 even.

I used notepad to do this (as noted in the OP).  I also run win7 64bit.  Perhaps you forgot to do it as administrator?  Only thing I can think of since we use the same OS and it worked for me but not for you.

does this shrink ALL the annoying text???  I play in 1920x1080, and some of that other really large text over the interface is annoying.....

It just makes the actual chat text smaller (everything that shows up in your chat log).  xp-gold gains, kills, team chat, all-chat, etc.

Ok, after looking at possible solutions I would like to suggest that you try the following.

Right click "font_data"
Click on properties
Go to the Security tab
Select Users
Where it says "Change permissions"  Click "Edit"
Go through each user type (Admin, users, system) and check "Full Control" for each of them.
Click Apply
Click Ok

Now open your font_data in notepad, edit it, and click save.  Should work now.

Also usefull to make it bigger, when you're playing on your 50inch TV and sitting 10 feet from it.  8-)

How do I add black background to chat letters so that chat is easier to read?

Now that would be good tweak.

My buddy asked me this same question.  Only solution I can think of would be to do a new UI layout mod.  I'll look into it.  I only say this because I don't see an actual "chat box".  It seems more like it just throws your chat in a certain position and then scales it down depending on how long the message is.
