Hey, to the devs: have you ever thought about disabling the pan around character view? The one done with the ~ key? Because it is annoying how people can see behind them and i don't see any reason to keep the feature. It would stop all of those 180 degree instakill stabs that are so annoying.
Input?
side note: has anyone tried a raid in strat yet? How they work? You get good spoils?

we won't be able to take screenshots of our character if this was removed...
-
Expect the unexpected. You know, when you think "Hey I can sneak up" No, you can't. They will fake it.
-
bad idea

Bad idea. Disable the Pan feature if we ever get proper surround sound and full plate is not stealth armour and cav sounds properly where it is at. Until then, keep pan.

disable movement while using it

I no like your avatar Tears

Oh goodness what is wrong with it this time?! Heh.
-
disable movement while using it
but you would still be able to see behind you...
-
If there was a way to show the persons head turning when they look around that'd be good, but definitely shouldn't remove it.
-

most people use it to watch behind them or flanks when running, especially archers. defeats the purpose if they cant move when doing it

something like this would be great, would alert the person creeping up on someone that their target is aware of their presence...

but you would/should be able to see behind you when running to some degree, so i don't think it should be removed...

yeah, the ~ key is like turning your head irl... it's basically the same as telling people in a real war that they are not allowed to turn their head around :D
-
I still get caught out by silent cav even though I am allowed to use the tilde key to see behind me. If that's removed, i'll camp in a corner where I can only get attacked from the front. Then see how you like archers.

Fine, apparently all of you spend all your time looking behind you..... paranoid....
Following up on the head turning idea, yeah, make the person glow red when they touch the key, so that stupid spin stab wont work so easily.
P.S. To the person saying it is a realistic feature like turning your head: I don't know about you, but im not an owl, i can't spin my head all the way around.

try turning your upper body with it... it works for me, but perhaps im just a freak y'know...

Until the sound in this game doesn't suck as gigantic gooey balls as it does, it's a necessary feature.
Also I don't know how your body works but because of peripheral vision most people can turn their head the farthest it will go and see directly behind them.
-
I never learned to use that. It's a silly feature but I guess it is bit more realistic than not having it. Since IRL we can move our heads and eyes to look around quite fast and have a superior envirmental awarness that is lost in a 2D format. I don't think it should go but make it so that you cant hold attack and do superduper fast turning attacks from that.
I think there is a real advantage in not using it. You move around to look behind and your character moves unpredictably. You avoid lots of ranged fire when you dont use tilde.
-
I have it set to ctrl so it doesn't alter my movement to use it constantly. Of course I still regularly get stabbed in the face while I'm watching the guy behind me.
-
How will I be able to look at my handsome face every 5 seconds then?
-
And how do you spot cav coming behind you?
You can't compare to rl, i mean in a second i can look right and left and be aware of my surrounding, it's not even like that in the game.
So yeah it's unrealistic but it's the only way.

Don't fix what isn't broken.

You deserve to die if you think you can gank someone and fail

I can look behind me when I run. I say keep it.

One of the most important rules of Rincewind "never look back when you run (away)"
It can cause you to stumble or fall (murphy´s law and so).
-
I won't be able to see my pretty armor.

Can't believe that Lizard is against this idea

The thing is, in RL the person sneaking up on you sees that.
This feature isn't really a problem though. Unrealistic in some ways, but definetly not our biggest problem. As Tod said it should be disabled if we had proper movement sounds because it basically is a workaround for the lack of spatial hearing (not sure about how to say that in english).
-
You said it perfectly in English.

that is abosolutely true, i would also think it would be ncie to have the chars literally turn their heads, but that is not possible afaik (or atleast it would take a shitload of time?)
I also think that a red glow or something like some people have suggested would make it look unrealistic (yes it's unrealistic that people can see behind them without turning.. but a freaking glow? i mean... wtf?)
anyways; with the two current scenarios being either having it like it is now or totally disabling it, i definitely think keeping it as it is now is the best.
-
i never use that button haha.
i dont know i usualy hear or just have an strange feeling of somebody is sneaking up behind me.
althrough im some times wrong and suddenly look arond for it i am right alot of times with it.
+1 to being paranoid .
-
Call in the exorcist...
-
Actually, I don't use it much. More due to lazyness than over-confidence. I often look around, but I only use the regular camera to do it.
-

So yeah it's unrealistic but it's the only way.
half the helmets in the game would restrict your neck movement, so unlikely you see the rear 90° arc at all without significantly slowing yourself down by twisting your entire body
-
Why do scrub suggestions like this still piss me off when I do not even play anymore?
Oh I remember, because some asshole will say 'oh how will you know it's shite until we try it' and next thing you know.. it's in the game.
-
uhmm why always when people are trying to discuss something in this GAME
they bring up real life arguments against , that makes no sense since this is an game atleast bring an argument from this game against it....

The turning head so they know you're watching idea is stupid; you should always assume they are watching. If your reflexes are bad enough that it makes a difference, uninstall.

what am i supposed to do on those long shieldwall pewpew random plains rounds other than admirin the armour im wearing?
-
I don't know about you guys, but 90% of the time I can tell if someone has spotted me or not using it when I'm coming from behind them. Most people (90%) try to look way too innocent or do stuff that gives away their intentions of counter-ambushing you. If they haven't seen you, they'll be moving in a way/doing stuff that they wouldn't do if they knew someone was about to stab them in the back. Also, keep in mind that if they are using the 360 view, their character will ONLY be staring forward, not turning even a bit.

I was throwin it out there as an alternative option for whiners to whine for, I don't think anything needs to be changed with the way ` works
