Something like this:

Certain mods already have it. Vikingr uses it by pressing X to switch between Overhand to Underhand. Would be a nice addition for the Shield/Spear users.

just use this to replace the overhand on all non-swinging polearms

already still-waiting-on-WSE which is waiting on final warband patch.

Yeah, at the moment animations will effect all weapons in the same category, so we have to wait for.. WSE.

QFT
However, I could see it being tough to figure out what stab is being used

So it isn't possible to make new animations (or use existing ones) and make a new class of weapon animation? I know everyone is going on about WSE, and this question might sound retarded, I just want to know what the problem is a bit more specifically. There is polearm, scimitar, 1h sword, 2h sword amongst animation groups right?

Don't think there is a scimitar group, as far as I know they have regular 1h animations. But yeah, you have animation groups and you can't change one weapon's animation in such a group without all the others changing too. And making more groups isnt possible yet, WSE is required for that.

Can't wait for some kind of 1 handed spear buff. Give us Hoplite's a break!

Hoplites do fine as it is. Our hoplites do spectacularly in battle as it stands.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but I'll say it for others' benefits; Hoplite strength lies in teamwork, target switching and team synergy is key to the success of hoplite formations.
Alone, our hoplites put their shields away to gain the versatility of a two-handed weapon, but in teams, the protection for themselves and their teammate far exceeds their individual performance.
