Title: About forum structure
Post by: Espu on August 12, 2011, 08:29:05 pm
If you have good ideas about forum structure, share. My main concern atm is that way too many get started in general section cause people dont seem to understand where stuff is meant to be posted. I did some changes just now, open for more good ideas.

Game Issues and Problems

There is no place in this forums to post about hardware or software problems, and ask for help from people more experienced in this area.
And im not talking about bugs, but troubleshooting.

We do need a technical sub forum, that way in-game bugs are separated from performance/loggin bugs.

Indeed.

Also, an ART section. We have creative people but their work is deep in the bottoms of this forum.

Forums that are nested more than one level deep get missed because they are not listed on the main forum index.  For example, the Strategus specific Buy/Sell forums would see more traffic if they were siblings to the regular Buy/Sell forums instead of children.

Ability to quote quotes of quotes of quotes of quotes.

Annoying to manually have to insert quotes into quotes for sake of clarity.

Merge the suggestion section with the game balance sub forum as they kind of cover the same area really.

A general tech support section.

Sub forums, server support, computer support etc.

Don't let people automatically post in a particular section of the forum.  Like Yahoo Answers, posters could start a thread then be prompted with suggestions about which section of the forum to post it.  I have no idea how we would go about doing this though.

The problem is not something that can be changed with structure, people know they are posting in the wrong section, they just want attention since this is the most active place.

Well you could make it like no one could add comments, so there would be no flaming at all.

Just my 2cents

I changed my mind. We need a Personal Complaints forum so people can stop cluttering up general talk with I hate this clan/person/community/adim/server threads. Maybe call it the e-peen forum so we can also post Who do you think is the best/worst/favorite/least-favorite clan/server/player.

I humbly suggesting naming the forum after me in honor of this suggestion and so people understand instantly the type of idiocy that belongs in it.
