It determines the body armor for the shield health itself.

Bonus v axes negate that body armor and go mostly to the health. (Heavy board shield takes more hits for an axe than a huscarl )

so does it have to do with you overall armor like when you get hit without blocking the damage is decreased because of the shield?

No, the body armor is only for the shield. If you get hit by anything, the body armor of the shield doesn't get added up.

Shield HP determines how much damage the shield can take before breaking. Shield armour determines how much damage the shield will take when you block with it. The two are both important for the overall durability of the shield.

This.

My favorite way of explaining this stat is the following: think of your shield as a peasant that you hold in front of you. The peasant's hp is the shield's hp, and the amount of armor you have on the peasant is the shield's armor rating.

i just don't want to know where you put the arm to handle it.

So much this. Aslong as its a weeboo your carrying. And your testing its durability by stabbing it in the back while carrying it.
