Title: Why keep wpf calculations hidden to the public?
Post by: Arkonor on August 10, 2011, 11:23:25 pm
Been trying to make some throwing build that works but without knowing how my gear will affect the wpf and 1 week timer on skip the fun for testing purposes I just gave up.

Have done countless testing and lost over 100.000 gold just buying crap to test with and the current formulas are just wrong and it doesn't make sens to hide it from people.

What I have found out though is that throwing needs 13 * PT + hidden gear minus (that probably affects both throwing and melee)

For example I used a gear with

Head 2.75 weight
Body 16 weight
Hands 0.25 weight
Feet 2 weight

with 1 point in PT I needed 60 wpf to be able to use the 1 point. Every 1 point added without changing gear needed only 13 though. So PT 2 needed 73 and so on.

So this gear uses 60-13 = 47 points of wpf

And no current formula can show that. The head alone uses well over 13 points. Which is obviously more then the 3x told. And body uses more then 1x for sure. Found out during testing that a 13.5 weight armor needs 18 points of wpf just alone with other slots empty.

But yeah am getting annoyed that I need to spend my free-time reverse engineering some game just so I can do simple planing on builds.

Also have been seeing people run around with really weird gear-layouts that amazingly lower your wpf really minimally. So guessing "some" actually know the truth but are not sharing (or not allowed to).

Yeah, throwing is so hard to figure out right now I'm not even going there with my main. I may try a STF alt to mess with it, but probably not. It's just a pain, and should be explained somewhere more lucidly.

I think the problem here is there is an extremely high learning curve for new players, and it's really hard to get the information you need about how to just get going. You also level up really fast at first, and could make a big mistake in a build before you figure out what's going on.

I think the answer here is having a comprehensive video guide or just a well edited wiki. RipperX, where are you when we need you?

The formular is rocket science. You are better off with trial and error.

Maybe a small tool to calculate it?

I would like to look over your results if you could PM them to me.

I currently have a number of samples in orbit for radiation hardness testing. NASA is surprisingly generous with collaborations.

God damn it, I fucking love WaltF4. As someone who is going to school to eventually become an aerospace engineer, my respect for Walt just went up further.

On topic though, You are wearing an awful lot of armor for a thrower or any ranged character for that matter. You'd have the same troubles trying to do what you are doing as an archer.

Oh shit, WaltF4 is on this shit. I expect a cracked formula within 2 weeks.

Walt used to be a professor of aeronautical engineering until he got cancer and used his professional skills to cook top quality methamphetamine.  True story.
