Title: How many wpf for effective crossbow usage?
Post by: Ozwan on August 09, 2011, 01:08:01 am
I'm planning on making 1h+shield+crossbow character.
The crossbow would be used just as a support weapon to shoot people who are close to walls, are climbing the ladders, fleeing archers and such. Nothing sniperish. I want to use normal crossbow. How many wpfs do I need to invest in crossbow proficiency to make it usable for described purposes?

Being precise as much as you can would be useful, so would it be below 70, 70-80, 80-90, 90+ etc.?

50 WPF seemed to about double the accuracy for me.  50 is a great investment and allows medium range shots with good accuracy.

It really depends on your build, if you have not alot of wpf to work with then go with 50 but if you have 7 or 8 WM go for around 100. To me using a crossbow as a support weapon is too costly and if you're already using a sword and shield then the biggest crossbow you can use is the light one because the others above it take 2 slots. Even if you had the extra slots i would still suggest light crossbow because it is efficiant for mid range shots, has a quicker reload, and is more money friendly.

The best damage for 1 slot is the standard crossbow.

About accuracy, if you want to negate much of the luck factor you will need...

50 wpf will be enough for shotgun-small range.
90 for short-medium range.
at least 130 for medium-long range sniping.

About upkeep, crossbow aren't cheap so choose wisely depending on your wpf of choice.

the more wpf you get, the less the crossbow will break.

Lately I have been using my crossbow in battle, I decided to do this cause I didn't want to engage in melee as I leveled up because I couldn't kill no one. I have 1 wpf and been able to kill targets at close to mid range with very good accuracy. Long range my bolts are useless. You just have to be very patient and you most likely will do good, but I agree with 50 wpf.

My mistake with saying the normal crossbow takes up two slots.  Still suggest the light crossbow though cause it's more cost efficiant.

Any info or chart available to show maint cost for xbow versus the amount of wpp you have?
