Suggestion: Once a faction owns a village, they can choose to build extra defences, which could take time and money to construct. Once finished, the village map they fight on to defend will have walls/fences and other defences making it easier to hold on to.
This could also be used for castle/towns as well though less needed I think.
It would also require a large amount of scene making.
-
scene editing should be done on the part of the village owner and implemented for a scalable size of gold
-
Letting players loose like that has its own problems I think.
-
would be cool if a faction would spend all there money on one castle to make it ubergood defendable
-
so, who is going to test all the maps to make sure the attackers can actually get into the castle?

or you have a standard map, say a castle. the normal castle has a gate which can be opened by hand, but when you upgrade it, it gets a mechanical openable gate. when you upgrade it again, it gets doors in towers and in gatehouses. at upgrade 3 it gains another destroyable gate in front of the mechanicly openable gate. at upgrade 4 it gets towers at the sides of the gatehouse and at all the corners of the castle. and so on.
this would be awsome

Probably way too abusable, people would just cover the most vulnerable and exposed place making castles impenetrable.

`so, that's how they did it in RL too didn't they?
-
True, but there's a lot of realism that this mod doesn't and won't have. It's about balance.

if chadz just opens a few charcra's it will be balanced enough for this idea

I suggest a wooden paliside with an opening in the rear and front. Nothing fancy but can be used to funnel attackers, castle walls are way too much.

not if it already a castle
-
A village palisade with one or two openings could work. It would need to cost a lot though and take time to build (so people wouldn't just palisade up the village that was attacked an hour ago).

though it would be funny if you lay siege on a village, and than when you attack, it has become the best defendable castle ever. :o
-
That's why 2 openings (no doors or anything). I can't see how that would be harder than taking a castle.
-
Maybe add a breakable door for extra gold and more construction time
-
Maybe even palisade walls could break if you hack at them long enough :)

Even having choke points would mean alot in defending a village. If the village had openings a seige wouldn't be nessisary, the added defences would just make the attack on it harder. I guess an army could seige a village if they wanted to, but that wouldn't (or shouldn't) be a typical thing
