Hey guys!!!
Well, i have has mount and blade warband for about a week now and am really hooked, especially to multiplayer. However, i can openly say that i am aweful in melee combat, i can not block well at all, and i very rarely get a hit in at anytime meaning that i end up with a spawn counter for the most part in games. However, i thought that giving archery a go would perhaps be more enjoyable for me since i can sneak a few shots in with relative safety. I have heard that there is a nerf on archery, but is the nerf damage or range? And at what level can i fire an arrow accuratley?
Thanks for your time and help :)

Don't worry about it. If you haven't played before then you have nothing to compare to anyway. And level depends on your chosen bow/build and what you consider "accurate".

Thanks for the response. Just out of curiosity, does power draw and WPF help accuracy at all? Or does it increase damage instead?

They made the arrow speed (how fast it flies in the air) slower in the latest patch. Your build will effect you damage and accuracy, if you have more strength, than you will hit harder but be less accurate, or more agility focused and be more accurate but not hit as hard as you possibly could.
Archery it very bad at lower levels, your not that accurate until you wpf reaches 100+, power draw reduces accuracy but ads damage, wpf raises accuracy quite a bit and damage is slightly raised(not sure about the damage though). You need to balance out the PD and WPF so your not to inaccurate, but you don't hit for almost no damage.

Ahh thankyou very much! I suppose il have to wade through my first few levels shooting close up to people, then running away haha. Thanks for both your replies :)

Noone knew how to melee good when they started Warband, I know that cRPG might not be the best to start learning melee but you should definitely visit some native Team Deathmatch or Deathmatch servers with fast respawn time and learn some melee. Maybe you'll learn fast, I think you're giving up too fast on melee.
The fun is in the challenge :)
Also try training blocks and attacks with the bots in native singleplayer tutorial, then go to duel server and try dueling people there.

21/18 as an archer, you won't regret it.
Just focus on getting 18 Str and some agility at your lower levels. Once you hit 6 PD you'll be solid.

The biggest problem with archery right now IMO is upkeep costs. I am burning through gold using just a horn bow and bodkin arrows (and typical low cost armor). As an archer before these patches you could rake in gold, now I've burned through about 40k gold and I'm not even level 30 yet.
I'm not saying it should be returned back to the days where archers were making bank, but there should be slow growth not continuous loss even when I probably have a better multiplier than someone starting out. This will make it very hard for new players since they will see themselves constantly losing money once they get close to 30 even when they wear very little.
Otherwise yeah try a 21/18 build or an 18/21.

Totally agree here. That's fine if you enjoy archery but, if you get bored of it, don't give up on melee just yet. You'll suck balls at first and see your kill score inbetween 1 and -1 for a while, but if you keep playing and practicing you'll get the hang of it. Shield and 1h is a good way to start melee, but if you wan't to learn manual block as quick as you can go with a 2h right away. I'm first gen playing a 2h char that's lvl 25 and, before i took a bit of a break from the game, was sitting in the middle of the pack in kills when online. I'm not saying "quit shooting arrows like a pansy" (haha just kidding archers, don't shoot me ), I'm just saying not to give up on melee so fast; it can be discouraging but eventialy you'll be decent at it.

Dont use bodkins problem solved.
I understand what the solution is, but there is no good reason why they are prohibitive in the first place. Plated cav gives a large bonus with charge damage and bunches of armor and hp, there is good reason that item is prohibitive. Bodkins though?
It's just stupid and needs to be rebalanced. Out of general principle I've continued to use them as I have MW ones
