Title: Archery [4 things]
Post by: Miley on August 04, 2011, 09:23:44 pm
Isn't it time already that arrows were fixed? The dropping weapons, disappearing arrows, etc. bugs are annoying. You pick up a stray arrow, your melee weapon drops on the floor, and your pack of arrows just disappears.

Why does the Yumi take one slot, while the War Bow uses two slots? The Yumi is longer and also requires 6 PD. The War Bow also uses cut damage, unlike the Long Bow.

Why was the draw speed bonus on heirloomed bows taken away? Melee gets it o.0

Also, I think bows should shoot a little faster (missle speed, not draw speed). It's stupid how high you have to aim to get a horse or something.

*Don't get defensive please, they are just questions and suggestions!

For the love of god, do these things NAO. We know you can. They were done before :P. I was halfway from 30-31 and had to respec just because I hated the change to the missile speed so much -_-.

I've been playing an archer alt when I get sick of throwing being awful. It is painfully slow. Taking out an arrow, drawing, and waiting for the reticule to tighten is brutal, and then the arrows travel so slow, you basically have to see the future to aim at anyone.

"Why are you drawing back? There's no one there!"

"No, but there WILL be...."

I know everything is being balanced according to "realism" but common, it's a video game, and the source the devs are citing for the changes is some youtube video. When will they start realistically balancing the rest of the game instead of just archers?

I think devs already stated they balance the game more about actual balance than realism (not fasaderp btw).

Here's how cRPG is balanced: 2H/polearm spam > God.

1. You only drop arrows if you pick up arrows that aren't equal to what you have in your quiver.
2. The Yumi might look big, but it sucks compared to the Rus Bow in stats.
3. Obviously the devs think the current speed is more than enough, damage and accuracy are more important for an archer, melee doesn't get a wpf bonus.
4. The missile speed is good now, I actually prefer it from time to time.

1. Agree, but I find that to be a problem. If I have 19 Bodkin Arrows on me, why should I drop some of them when I loot a solitary Barbed Arrow off the ground? I guess I don't understand the technical side of the issue at all.
2. No opinion.
3. Swing speed doesn't increase from wpf? I thought it did but I could be wrong.
4. While I dislike it, enough to stop playing as an archer, plenty like it or at least do well with it. No real opinion on it.

Archers take wpf for accuracy, they get accuracy form looming their bows too, 2handers get wpf for speed, they get speed on their heirlooms.

WPF also increases draw speed...

No, shoot speed is not enough. It's ridiculous how high you have to aim at some things to even get their feet.

You can't snipe from miles away anymore, arbalests now fulfill that role. Deal. With. It.

Take away all the dam weapons and armours, and have a fist fight, can't be anymore balanced than that.

Yes, lets get arrow speed back up.  I don't enjoy archery anymore either.

I've been playing a pure archer for a little while now (Lv27 and change) and I find it absolutely ridiculous that even a STR platemy old friend can easily matrix-dodge my arrows at short range.  Arrow velocity was over-nerfed, there is no denying that at this point.  I just want a reasonable chance to be able to hit an aware player at short range without praying that he/she steps into it; which is how it works now.  If I hit an aware enemy at close range now it is more dumb luck than anything.  Archers shouldn't have to rely on cheap-shotting preoccupied enemies for the lion's share of their contributions.

Arrows don't do that much damage, why do they need to be so easily avoidable too?

[I'm talking about short range and not point-blank range just to be clear.  Also, archer/ranged isn't my main: A shieldless two-hander is.]

3. Swing speed doesn't increase from wpf? I thought it did but I could be wrong.

WPF does increase swing speed of melee weapons. (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,2531.0.html)  It is very noticeable as an archer running around with 1WPF in 1h/2h when you are used to playing your two-hander and polearm characters.  Even my 99-speed mace is slow.  It also seems to effect the speed at which you can go from attack to parry and parry to attack.
