I am really interested in what maps you guys like to play, so I can make more of those! :D
-
All of the above :P
-
That's alot of maps!

Ran similar polls on the old forums, here are the results if it helps:
Poll Results for "What type of terrain do you like to play on?"
Plains 22 (29.7%)
Forest 26 (35.1%)
Desert 4 (5.4%)
Snow 16 (21.6%)
Steppe 6 (8.1%)
Poll Results for "I most prefer to play..."
In a Town or Castle. Many buildings, alleyways, stairways, rooftops, etc. 28 (27.7%)
In Arenas. Townlike, but more open, fewer rooftops and buildings. 9 (8.9%)
In Villages. A small village with a few buildings and roads surrounded by open terrain. 9 (8.9%)
In Ruins. Mostly open with scattered, sparse architecture for cover. 23 (22.8%)
On Bridges. Pretty much open terrain, with traffic channeled onto one or more bridges. 12 (11.9%)
In the Open. Open fields with moderate to little terrain change and occasional trees or rocks for minimum cover. 20 (19.8%)

Ruins in Forest! :) Thats the fav map.

Thanks for the info kong ming :)
I will try to make some more open forests and city maps, perhaps a long dark ambush seen with broken carts everywhere near the road, like that one post said. 8-)
If you got any ideas in specifics just post em here, I'd love to hear what you guys got in mind.

Well, we do actually have a thread already going for new map ideas, and I'd love to see more ideas posted to it. You could also check out the old forums where we had a longer conversation about the topic, with several fairly developed ideas tossed around that haven't been realized yet. Ultimately, I think there's a larger issue of people who play this game not being aware of the fact that there is actually a community of people around who develop maps for it, and who want their feedback as long as it really is feedback and not just pointless whining.
It is of course a tricky and invariably subjective topic, but I would love it if there were a stronger dialogue among players about the maps we play and what people really want to play on. I spend hours developing maps, but it's frustrating to spend that time on a map that I have no reason in particular to believe will actually be what people want. I also think there's a strong misunderstanding about the maps that end up on servers. People play this mod understanding that it is exactly that, a MOD, and they feel perfectly free to develop extensive suggestions for how to improve it. But they play the maps as though they are some sort of final product that has been magically tested extensively somewhere else and are either a success or else complete failures that should never be seen again. All maps for this game are always in development, and should be treated like any other aspect of this mod, and in fact, even more so, since they aren't even a product of the development team (in most cases), but rather an independent project developed by people who just want to spend their free time actively trying to improve the gaming experience of everyone involved.
Wow, that got kinda soap-boxy, please forgive me. Whatever the case, the message I want to leave for everyone is simply this. People who make maps for this mod are trying hard to make something you enjoy playing on. Tell us what you like. Be detailed in doing so. We'll do our best to make it happen. We want everyone to like what we make.

I don't think the poll really works. Village maps are sorta by themselves, where the other 4 results are in a way very alike, so it could caused mixed votes.
-
Yeah I hate it when trolls come on a new map and play for ten minutes and say "this map sucks.. its a piece of garbage."
Some don't understand how long it takes to make maps. Average of 4+ hours for me. I try to make maps you guys like with ranged, cav, and infantry in mind! I hope you guys like my maps.
Poll was edited btw :)

Well just my two cents. Snowy, Desert, Grass, Hills, Plains... nothing like that really appeals to me individually, I put them in the same group and I don't really care which way the map goes. I prefer more of a city looks, over the village look, as a city can have more identity and structure.

I'll do my best to keep you guys happy! :)

SoA dibs *cough cough*

I'm making a cave map with a very deep river that separates the 2 spawns. I'm planning on making a little castle to the side or ruins to the side, or make something interesting somewhere.
used to ruins map:
spawn 1: bandit/army camp on a hill with a wall of rocks with a stairway underneath.
spawn 2: A castle hall inside a rock, with entrey into the ruins, and defensive spikes and small wall.
-
That sounds like an excellent map. :)
Can't wait to see it.. Screenies when finished? o.O
-
or make something interesting somewhere.
I am always a fan of something interesting somewhere. Vague as it may be, it promises so much. Carry on soldier, I look forward to your results!

Why was there no cave maps as a choice for poll? Anyway. Check it out

@Apsalar: The second shot seems nightmarish o.o
Atm, my personal favourite map is the caravan ambush one. Lots of options to get to the enemy, and lots of cover/chances to backstab people depending on your path choice.
Least favourite maps are the ones for pre-patch crpg where everyone is funnelled into a single chokepoint for max exp.
Has anyone considered a 2 forts type map? And adding some sneaky ways into each other's fort to prevent over camping.

I have actually made a map for the 1'st idea and a map for the second already. :D

I was wrong, evidently, as I played on it late last night :P

:O
No need for me to replicate it then :?
