Title: Attack/Block direction indicators?
Post by: Christo on August 01, 2011, 06:29:32 pm
Anyone using these?

I think they can help you when you have to concentrate on your surroundings for long.

What's your opinion?

I use them, but not for blocking. With a melee weapon out, they light up when enemies are near, sooo.. kind of a gimme, especially on city maps with twisted streets.

woah, really?  Like, they light up when an enemy is within range of your swing, or are we talking...

Oh that's cool, I never realized that they light up when enemies are near, hmm I'm oblivious.

I find those things to be too distracting.  They mess me up more then they help out.

Thank you for making the sting reference that I felt too nerdy to bring up myself. It's actually a fairly decent range, not sure how far exactly, but well beyond the range of the weapon swing, in all directions (a floor above or below you, through walls, etc).

Well, I actually have them selected. Doesn't mean I use them though

I don't use them. They lie when there's a horde.

So it is some kind of a cheap radar cheat?

I never used them until I turned them on months ago. Today I suddenly noticed them and I was like, hey I have those things on. I got so used to them that I don't even see them. Might aswell turn em off again.

I think an opponents weapon is easier to spot in the heat of battle than taking your eyes of your oppenent to watch the arrows, also with mutliple enemies they dont work at all.

Dudes, you realize these indicators don't show where enemies' weapons are going, but only where you are attacking/blocking, right?

Either way I learned to properly block by going into single player and just blocking, then circling in either direction while blocking. I went from being able to block just the first strike to being able to consistently block, although in mp you're going to need to compensate for footwork, feints, holds, etc.

Yeah, but they only light up from mere movement (without mouse buttons depressed) when orcs are near.

I use those 'attack / block direction indicators' to spot enemies behind walls and in trees and such. Useful.

How much of the screen do they take up and how bright? I am wary of them being an immense distraction.

I guess i'm use to the little yellow and blue arrows when attacking. I don't even see them anymore.

But sometimes when i'm searching for the last player, those arrows pop up when the enemy is near, even when i can't actually see the enemy yet.

I thought they showed the attack/block direction you had prepared, but when I turn them on, it doesn't seem like that's what they correspond to.

Now I hear they can detect unseen enemies?

Always used them. As mentioned, since they light up when enemies are near, I am never, ever surprised by people hiding behind corners or haystacks or what have you.

I figured everyone had them on, and since that doesn't seem to be the case I guess I have finally found the answer to the often mused thought "why the hell did he just run past that corner and die...".  :D
