I was thinking of swapping my Plain Heater Shield for a Board shield, but I'm stuck on it really. Since my Lance is so short, I'm not sure if it would be worth buying the board shield due to it's painfully low speed rating. Has anyone tried out using the Board shield and have they seen much of a difference, and is it too slow for my up-close Hoplite build?
Some advice would be wonderful, thanks in advance.

Lance? I assume you are on a horse, of which the Board Shield is not usable mounted.

On foot, Lance with shield x:
I've been having alot of fun using it.

board shields arent that great for melee combat, too slow & heavy for the coverage they offer. they're for shieldwalling and blocking chokepoints. plus using a slow shield with slow weapon will get you killed alot

Ouch, never thought about that. Anyways thanks for all of your comments. It's really helped me out.

Lance on foot=fail
Board Shield, unless backed up by others with a board shield and some ranged behind you, maybe a team of 2handers as well, is also fail.
Go with the Huscarl Shield and the Awlpike/Warspear/Red Tassel Spear if you want to be a good hoplite.

You can also use a lighter 100 speed shield as an alternative to Huscarl.

I use a board shield with a LEE, accually a HEAVY one and I seem to get loads of kills, I guess its the mostly STR builds in NA, since when I go shield I use a 15/21 and I get loads of nice kills :D
