Title: Killing riderless horses mid-round
Post by: Engine on January 17, 2011, 06:18:22 pm
It's inconsiderate. Don't do it. Other people can use those horses.

I'm seeing repeat offenders who think it's funny. I'm going to start killing them each time.

And if they are on your team, you'll get banned!
Everyone's a winner!

I only kill them if my teams way ahead, because I've been in rounds where the other team won just because they found a horse.

Or  if I'm really bored XD that's rare though

Enemy can use those horses.

I'm seeing repeat offenders who spawn a horse and get off of it to roam free and bump teammates. They think its funny. I'm going to start killing them each time.

It's double edged sword. I hate when I succesfully dehorse a cavalry with my archer or HA, just so they whistle and a loose horse comes to them, making my effort useless.

Of course kill the horse if it looks like an enemy is going to use it. That's common sense.

I'm mainly talking about horse-killing in an area your team controls, just because. A few times last night I whistled
for a horse and saw teammates killing it while it's trotting over to me. Then on team chat they go 'durrrr sorry'.

If that happens again I'm just gonna kill the teammate and take the ban. No big deal.

You should probably whistle too

That's really relative term. When you dehorse a cavalry, it's usually in the area your team controls, or very close to that. And the unmanned horses have very very loose pathing. Just because now I see him striding in our territory doesnt mean 10 seconds later he won't be at the other side of the map. Shooting horses is just preemptive strike. If I see Oberyn, or any other very good cavalry player, I know he can defend himself very well when dehorsed and defintly dont want him have the adventage of another try on horseback.

Ok, I didn't think it needed clarification, but:

Use common sense. If your team is kicking ass, if your teammate calls for a horse, if it doesn't hurt you and can benefit the team, then don't kill riderless horses.

I am going to kill rideless  horses if they are in my way and those runing around bumping melee fighters I think its a common sense

I kind of wished you'd just get banned already and save us all the time/team-related killings. You sound pretty close-minded/unfair. You're basically asking us to stop and take all the things mentioned in this thread into account every time we see a riderless horse in game which is a bit of a hassle in itself in the heat of a fight. If we are in battle, unless I see someone on my team make a B line for said horse, I kill it instantly. In most cases the horse is pretty badly injured anyway and will go down in one good hit and random bumps/enemy horse jackings are no good at all so what's the point really? Now if it's at the beginning of  a round and one of my team mates dismounts for whatever reason, then I let it be. Other than that, I stand by what I've said.

Protip: that kind of attitude will get you a preventive ban.

the horses are just as usefull for my enemies as they are for my teammates.

If i see most good cav players on enemy team, i'll kill the horses so they cant take 'em

I use common sense, you should use it too. If my team is kicking ass, we don't need another cavalry hunting for the kills, risking TKs (I noticed most of the TKs are either stupid archers shooting into clusterfucks, or stupid cavalry charging into clusterfucks), risking bumping our own melees netting the last few enemies easy kill or something similar stupid like that.
If I see you're whistling for a horse, I won't kill it when it passes me, but if I see a horse trolling around the field, I will probably kill it.

Buy your own horse if you need them so much...

I do kill them if i want because:

... i dont want them to bump me in the wrong situation
... i dont want enemys to use them
... i cant hear whistles (my fault) because of metalsoundmod

I only dont kill them:

... at start of round when someone leaves them and its sure my team will take them
... if i see that someone of my team is running towards the horse

I will always kill every horse I see. Because it's not fun to get knocked down or even killed by a strayed horse. You want to use a horse? Buy one!

The Biggest thing that bothers me about friendlies killing horses is "Horse TeamKilling!"

What I mean about that is, its a teammates horse. I dismounted in front of everyone at the beginning of a battle round to set up 2 siege shields to help MY allies. I turn around just to see they are pwning my horse instead of rushing the other team that's getting closer and closer. Who do you think pays upkeep for the dead horse now?

Good Job guys.

well, idiots will always be idiots, but in most cases killing a horse is resonable

What's the first thing that happens when E cav goes down behind the lines? They whistle. It's irrelevant how good of a place you think your horse is left at. Any player who leaves stray horses be is a bad team player

[chance the horse bumps half of my team] + [chance the enemy gets the horse] > [chance a teammate benefits from it]

So I will kill any goddamn riderless horse I see, the closer it is to the area my team controlls, the faster I will try to, because the possible damage, if the horse goes rampage, would be the biggest possible.

If you want to use a horse then buy yourself one, with the new upkeep gold income it's no problem. If you did and lost it: your fault. I hate cavalrymen who get dismounted and run away from every peasant, totally panicking, only to find another horse as fast as possible. Because without horse they are like shit, huh?

Edit: you also pay upkeep for found horses, just to mention!

Really? Wow, thats messed up.

Anyway, what we need is some way to tie a horse to an object so it can't go randomly rampaging through the teams. Would make my dragoon characters alot more effective  :D

I let every horse I see live, not just because I am always banner balanced on the cavalieres side, But if the enemy gets on it -- it is a death trap. I will dehorse and kill them if the enemy steals it.

I endorse letting stray horses live. I am aware of my surroundings. usually.

I just kill everything, enemies, horses, goons, teammates, flamers, admins, laggers, trolls and sometimes even myself.
