Title: help for horse thrower
Post by: Siboire on January 16, 2011, 09:19:30 pm
Hello, I did a rock thrower and I was having so much fun with it but I really hated the fact that I was crawling with 0-1 athletics lol (pumping str to get max PT) so I decided to retire and make a horse thrower.

I know that to be accurate I'll have to put some points into HA so I'll need to sacrifice some str into agi. So here comes my question, what build would be good for a dedicated horse thrower (no PS!)?

Here is mine right now, tell me what you think and what should I change and why plz? Oh and is 3 HA enough to be accurate and 7 PT enough to do decent damage considering I'll have the speed of my horse for bonus damage?

Level 30

Hit points: 59
Strength: 21
Agility: 18

Converted: 8

Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 0
Shield: 0
Athletics: 0
Riding: 6
Horse Archery: 3
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 7
Weapon Master: 6

one extra skill point.

One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 156

Tell me what you think and any help would be really appreciated!
Thx!

lol why "evil class"? this is nothing compare to horse archers! Man these guys are laughing at my face when they see me try to kill their horses with my war darts... lol my accuracy is shitty and compare to the archer that can carry up to 60 arrows, after 16-28 projectiles (depending on the throwing weapon I use), I'm empty!

C'mon am I the only one trying out this horse throwing class?

I currently have 2 HA and I find it really hard to hit something at medium-close range! How do you do that??

Throwing horses!?
Are you all daft??

(The trick to horse archery is to stop, shoot, or move slowly and shoot, then run. It might help to try a similar strategy as horse thrower.)

Looks pretty good.  Personally, I'd switch it up a little bit, and go

Power Strike: 3
Riding: 4
Horse Archery: 3

Weapon Master: 6

Polearm: like 60ish
Throwing: 140

But either way works.  My horse throwers have always been 2h hybrids, but it can work without melee specialty too probably.

No, thats NOT the trick, you can fire accurately with bows at full gallop, just aim up and right. Once you forget about using the crosshair, the accuracy is decent and you dont get shot.

But horse throwing IS very limited, by ammo and range, but close with your enemy and hold ur mouse button, since u dont loose accuracy, and release at enemy horsemen when they are totally convinced they are gonna lance you, and try to always cut them off, as in their horses nose hits the side of your horse, and rears up, thats always a good time to drop a javelin in their face.

thx for the info, I have a pure cav as a main so I'm using this alt for the lulz and trying something new but I'll consider it for my build :D

thx I'll try that! :)

One more thing, what throwing weapon would you suggest me considering I need some good accuracy and some decent amount of projectiles? I'm currently using war dartz for the amount you can bring and for their average damage (25 pierce) but they are "meh" in my opinion cuz I need to 3-4 hit to kill, I'm trying with franciscas (can sometimes 1-2 hit kill) but the range is too low... Grey, you said javs would be good? But only 16 projectiles seems not a lot :S

I guess your right, I have only 3 PT at the moment, maybe at 7 PT at lvl 30 with 21 str plus the bonus of the speed of my courser I should be able to one hit kill medium-low armor using only war darts, maybe I should bring 2 packs of war darts and 2 of javs just in case too?

i have heavy darts, it may take some to kill the enemy but its fun to see them get annoyed when i hit all throws

XD ya I'm sure it is annoying, I'm still not sure what should I heirloom as throwing weapon once I reach lvl 31 lol at first I wanted to heirloom rocks for the lolz but it's useless on horse I guess cuz 7 PT is not enough to be able to do real damage with rocks... so maybe war darts or javs... which one would be best? Rocks, war darts or javs?

why is HA a joke for throwing? and like said earlier, I'm doing a dedicated thrower so no PS for me cuz I already have a pure 1-hander cav. And I did an infantry thrower but I hated how I was crawling when trying to back peddle... So to try something new I decided to use a horse and at same time it will give me the mobility I didn't have on foot with my first thrower...

2-3 HA is good to decrease the dmg/accuracy bonus

Who/What is your main target? I used to plop around on a sumpter and throwing lances, aiming only for HA and high armoured users.

If other cav is your target, javs/jarids would be the best choice as you won't get as many opportunities to hit them. A good tactic is to hold your ground and use your horse as either a barrier or your sacrifice. Or, charge straight at the enemy cav and release just outside his lance's range. The speed bonus is going to kill him.

Against infantry, I suggest a steppe or sarranid horse, that way you can get right in their face and chuck something in it, while still being able to circle away just in case. If you're spamming into a crowd, war darts work fine. If you're really aiming at someone, javs/hvy thrw axes. The short range isn't really a problem, as a maneveurable horse will keep you alive.

Hm, this sounds more cool than a HA 10 athletics hunting bow archer :o

This is a very very true post. Your damage bonus for higher PT will practically be equal to the HA bonus + you are better off horse.

Im trying stuff for throwing right now, i have my noob on horse throwing and i now just did another noob char. to try 10 ps with 10 pt with 3 weapon master to pump wpf in 2 hands. That way even if im crawling with 0 athletics ill ba able to defend myself in melee :) ill be using either the bar mace, long iron mace or the studded war club, the speed and range of these is great for weapons that can crushtrough and knockdown and with 10 ps im sure ill be crushinngthrough and knocking down a lot :D so my recipe will be <throw rocks at them and if he runs up to me, get my studded war club and smash his face> lol it already worked a lot of time at lvl 14 with like 4-5 ps so at 10pt and 10 ps it will be really funny i just cant wait lol!!
