Quite a few of us participated in the epic Mercenaries vs. BRD battle this evening. While it was an interesting experience, I think everyone agrees that battles lasting 1h45m should be avoided. The reason the battle took so long was because it was beneficial for both sides to camp, so both sides just kept camping waiting for the other side to make a move. When battles last this long, people start missing appointments, it postpones other battles messing with the schedule, and in general it just becomes very drawn out. With bigger armies, the battles will only get longer.
I propose a maximum time limit of 55 minutes for Strategus battles. At the end of the 55 minutes, the attack is simply halted. Both armies remain in place with all their unused troops and gear intact. If the attacker wants to continue the assault, they must attack again.

i want to say yes, but i know that when it gets down it it, no id rather not re continue the attack the next day, you may lose people, over all its fine as it is now, tho i do wish there was a way to prevent other battles being pushed back

I said no, because we need admins to participate in epic Strat battles instead of time limits.
Love when admin starts to kick enemy team for not attacking castle walls :twisted: (after 5 hour siege, does anyone remember that battle?)

time should be proportional to the tickets & size of attack
ie...village 1h, city 3h, castle 6h etc. add extra time per 1k of troops present
downside to time limit is it rewards the unprepared/less equipped side by rushing the battle. no 'siege' mechanic

After 1 hour the attacker retreats so while the defenders is vulnerable in his lack of mobility, attacker is limited by his ability to keep on attacking/delaying forever. As a balance defenders have sapwn flags, attackers don't have flags, but instead have a time limitation for a succesful assault. Obviously this can be scaled to tickets - over 1000 both sides 2 hour limit, over 5000 3 hours, etc.

This honestly. It's a fucking game. Tell the people in voice chat "Sorry guys, got RL shit to do and that's more important than fighting for pixels in an imaginary land."
Anyone that ignores real life for a game is rather pathetic and needs to re-evaluate their priorities imo.
Otherwise though your suggestion seems fine.

I generally hate forced rules and time limits. If the battle is too long and people start leaving, then so be it. Don't force a time limit, then we wont ever see very long epic battles.

The fun of strategus is that a siege can reach hours, like if it were real. So obviously, NO.

I'm not for a time limit, but may be something could work with the new flag system, if after one hour attackers didn't take a flag then they must retreat, this could motivate attackers to attack.
