Don't spectate strat battles, it makes others who fight lag.
Split from unban section -Espu
-
On one of the battles, some of the people who had signed up didnt get in because the server was full because of the spectators..
-
Please ban all the spectators. Yesterday during the shogunate battle ive seen 15 spectator as well.
-
I guess we should starting with puting passwords on strategus battles.

good idea, or just ban them all for 2 days. coz all the battles ive participated there are usually around 15 spectators...we were wondering why they were not banned.
-
Jesus, if it's such a problem don't allow people to spectate.
-
I just always ban them if I feel laggy. Go watch the livestream, don't spectate.

Was that why 15 or so of our mercs couldn't get in on the Emirin attack?? I know a lot of people spectated that.

I don´t care i don´t spectate, but does this worth a ban?
A kick should make the deal, no?
Or set a pw...

You would be surprised at how many people rejoined after being kicked.

I'm assuming that Warband doesnt have any equivilent of say Halflife TV or whatever they call it? WHere the play server streams info to a 2ndary streaming server that feeds all the specs?
Theres gotta be a way of streaming this somehow, with at least 5 or less specs. ie..
spec1 watches defenders
spec2 watches attackers
spec3 is overhead view of battle
spec4 whatever
we gotta get some videos up on youtube like those crazy starcraft games
-
that would be sweet diggles (a hltv equivalent).
also, if you ban spec's from a strat battle server, doesn't that mean they wont' be able to join in a battle if they are signed up?
Why would you ban spectators, as far as they know there's no rule against specs. And if there's a problem with spectators, shouldn't that option just be turned off?

Where is that livestream?

If so, then you got double fucked.
You got fucked by the defenders.
And you fucked yourself with your arrogant speeches.. for everyone to come watch Mercs get beaten. 8-) WICH FAILED 8-)

Spectators do not cause server latency increases in any practical manner which could affect gameplay. Correlation is not causation, not to mention there is very little correlation between spectators and latency increases for players that is not purely anecdotal or other void evidence. The internet is a great example of why the general public should never be judge, jury, and executioner. Spectators are a scapegoat, to put it simply.
At the very least allow a few select players to record strategus battles from a spectator view if they apply/register on a thread if you're going to be ignorant and ban all spectators with the excuse of "lag".
If spectators are using player slots, that is another issue and it should be programmed into the strategus servers to create priority for participating players who are not spectators. There is no excuse for this feature not existing other than "chadz is lazy". In the meantime an administrator should be online actively kicking spectators in the event of them taking up too many slots in the server.
The best compromise: Create a thread which states the users who record battles and upload them to youtube with their channel URL, in addition to the users who will stream battles and the URL of their stream. Any other spectators will be kicked.
