Title: "This character belongs to someone else"
Post by: Cakeman on July 21, 2011, 06:49:53 pm
Firstly: Yes, i did searched the forum. I found several threads about this problem, but none of them helped.

I haven't played cRPG for several months, so i had to update both MnB and CRPG when i decided to bash some heads in with my great maul. After i patched Warband, it, for some reason, decided that i'm using the trial version and asked me to enter the cd-key again. But now all i get when i try to join any server is "This character belongs to someone else". I use non-Steam version of Warband, and i'm pretty sure that my cd-key did not magically changed since the last time i entered it :/

I hope someone can help me with this issue.

Sorry if my english is bad - it's not my first language.

Nope. This is a cd key issue.

You must have the incorrect cd key in your registry. I know this problem fairly well :P.
What you need to do is get your actual character's cd key that you played on before, and put it into the registry. I'm assuming there is either a mistake or some typo, or it is a trial key in place on accident. I'm alo assuming you have the real cd key on a box or something.

Go to Start --> Run. Type in Regedit. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MountAndBladeWarbandKeys
Click on serial_key and type in the correct cd key.

Start warband, try to log in. It should work now :)
