For a cav, what do [would] you guys prefer?
-
Shashka. For all that people say it is crap, my 21/15 can use it rather well on foot or mounted. For the price (more important then ever with the new upkeep and expensive cav) it has good speed, amazing length, good damage and looks nice (besides the hilt... I am talking about the blade).
Also, less people use it so you can surprise a lot of people with the length.
Did I mention that it also has a sexy name?

Why didn't you reply before? I already bought the scimitar! :[

Sowwy!
I can buyz you Shashka if you offer rock for it!
-
Shaska easily. U are at a huge disadvantage if you dont have a thrust attack, plus its cheaper (half the price!)
-
Well the scimmy does have an advantage for its ghost reach and speed, but the Shaska is way cooler and underused. +10 extra points for the user.
-
The elite scimmy is faster, deals more damage and because of the curve hits earlier than you think. The stab? The only onehander worth stabbing with is the Long Espada, but even than it's worthless.
Everything about it is better, even the scabbard of the scimmy is better looking.

TOO BAD. IT'S ON MY HORSE ARCHER, NOT MY MAIN CHARACTER. THANKS A LOT!

spoken like a true ignoramus. thrust damage doesnt matter when you are going medium speed from horseback and enemy is coming to you. I can headshot your horse with a thrust and murder you before you even get to swing your stupid scimi

Who says I'm on a horse? I don't have a single point in riding on my main at the moment. I even used an Arabian Cav Sword on horseback for the reach and damage when I was onehander cav. You never see the pro onehanders use the stab, I guess you are the ignorant one here.

Woops forgot it was for cav, but I still stand by my point.
Scimi is both better on horse and on foot, mostly because of the damage, you just need it badly.
I'd recommend Arabian Cav though.
-
Anyone want a x3 shashka?

Maybe you should come play in NA and see myself and Cyranule stabbing the shit out of ppl then
-
Both are good weapons, I just don't like the lack of speed on the shashka.
-
Thrust on horseback is important, so I'd say Shashka.
Off Topic:
Both are not straight swords, so they will never be in my inventory.
-
IMO shashka is slow. If you want to go for a slow weapon -> Military cleaver. At least, it hurt. I owned a MW one.

Will all due respect, go to hell and stay there

Cleaver is too short for a cav weapon, speed doesnt matter that much either, so the Shashka is definitively the best choice.
-
Shashka. I love it. The stab isn't horrible, and contrary to what some may think, stab on horseback is a phenominal way to kill shit. It's best for killing other cav, and you end up using it like a really short lance.
Stab isn't necessary, but it REALLY helps when doing the 1h cav shit.
It's also the cheapest sword that's above 100 length (I could be wrong). Upkeep ain't a problem with it, thats for sure.
The disadvantage is its slowness. Not a problem when on horseback, but when fighting on foot it is. You can try to compensate by using your range advantage, though.
-
I'd choose Shashka, but I already bought the Elite Scimitar because I couldn't wait for answers. :P

It was not even ten minutes! Hahaha

The arabian straight sword is exactly 100 length and is totally radical for a cheap weapon to use when you feel like being poor.
The practice sword is also lol 101 length lol.

Well yeah, NA is full of strength build people who can't block or use footwork.

I'm probably already there, care to join me?
In the end go for looks instead of stats, I prefer the elite scimi or arabian cav for looks and stats, but go with what you want yourself mate.

Tbh, I go to EU and can't ever stop laughing at the footwork people do. The one thing people in NA do correctly is step the right way most of the time. EU is fun to watch footwork in duel server especially ahah :)
on topic, elite scimmy is better, but shashka is cooler with more style points and an underrated stab. I'd go with shashka because this is a dress up game.

The Shaska scabbard is the ugliest thing currently known to man.

true story, it is hilarious.

Looks like kitchen knife imho.

Btw, checking the marketplace is a good way of finding out how good a weapon is. (never 100% good though)
Everyone is dumping their MW Shashkas for very low prices, elite scimi on the other hand is very popular and high in demand.

Cos all the greys now want ones for threir new members.

Guys saying thrust is not important in 1handers or that it is worthless have no fucking idea about this game and are the first guys to eat all my stabs... fun...
-
Personally I had more fun with as a shaska cav then as elite scimmy or arab cav sword.
Stat wise, speed isn't very important on horseback and the extra 3 length and fairly decent stab more then makes up for the extra point of damage from the elite scimmy. Correct me if im wrong on this, but you'll also get more damage from speed bonus with a slow weapon vs a faster one.
As others have stated, the Arabian straight sword is also a good, cheap option for an archer/HA side arm which I mostly use myself.
-
My favorite sword for 1h cav has always been the knightly arming sword.
Good cut, good pierce, ok speed, great range.
It is effective on or off a horse, can deliver excellent swing and stab attacks, and is pretty widely available as a MW weapon.
