I don't agree, the duel server is offered, you practise or not, that's your problem. Don't make this game a single man skill game, go win gold and xp with your team on battle and/or siege mode.

And what, no upkeep on the duels? What do you do if you suck at it? Duel in low tier equip?

It's true I wasn't yet playing cRPG at that time, if you say it was cool why not then.
But I do recon that back then their was less xp gain and no upkeep, how do you deal with that factor?

I agree duel should pay, less but still pay
there s some kind of players
players bored of ranged -> duel
player that sometimes want to training parade -> sometimes duel and still be happy for the reward

We do duel, both to practice melee and for other things. EU duel server is best for archery though as it is not claustrophobic like the NA one is.

How about, there's a temporary win/loss counter every tick (minute)?
If you're positive in wins compared to losses during that time, you get exp/gold, and if you're not you don't? (or drastically decreased)
0-0 would obviously get nothing.
After each tick, it resets.

You could just make it 1x, no increase in multiplier.
That way you can't exploit it, and you still get a little something for practicing.

I would suggest putting in a xp/gold tic for every minute a player is in the duel server. To prevent abuse of the system, have players obtain the tic only if they have participated in a duel (or more if necessary) during that minute. There would be no multipliers because they would make it way too easy for good duelers to get a x5. So duel servers, while not as productive as battle and siege servers, would give people something for their efforts

as usual, the arguments against are as unimaginative as ever. if anyone recalls before all the patches, you used to get money for kills in duel. not a lot, but a fair amount. everyone loved it, its great training, and it pays well enough that if you missed 1h of battle, you at least got SOMETHING.
lets look at a figure shall we? :idea:
if the bonus was 40xp and 20 gold per kill, it would take 100 kills to reach 4000 xp and 2000 gold.
considering it takes 45 seconds on average per duel, thats 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach.
it would take...
x5 for 8 minutes to reach 40,000 xp and 2000 gold.
x4 for 10 minutes to reach 40,000 xp and 2000 gold.
x3 for 13 minutes to reach 39,000 xp and 1950 gold
x2 for 20 minutes to reach 40,000 xp and 2000 gold.
x1 for 40 minutes to reach 40,000 xp and 2000 gold.
so you see, it would never pay off like battle. never. i don't care if your friends line up in a row naked for an hour (Really good friends if they did), you STILL cant reach anywhere near those figures.
now i used 40xp and 20 gold as an example to show to you all that its silly to argue about this, but this could be any figure under 250xp and 75 gold and it would still be impossible to exploit really.
this is something that chads already has coded from the previous versions. something that exists in DTV, in a different form. all he would have to do is adapt that code into duel and implememnt something along these lines, so its not a matter of difficulty.
its a matter of willingness.

I just don't want upkeep linked to the Duel server, so if Duel ever gets a reward, not only make it small like Soldier_of_God pointed out, but make sure that there is no upkeep (so even with no upkeep the reward should be very small to make sure it does not overcome Battle).
Duel with upkeep is a terribad idea.

It used to be xp/gold per duel win, gold was given depending on the level of the defeated guy, someone lvl 40 gave like 16 gold and i dont remember how much xp (900? less i think)

Have your main weapon break in battle : 1k gold to repair it. You can easily have it breaking in 13min (3 or 4 rounds), so that actually halves down your gold gain. So the question is : why would you gain gold if there's no upkeep ? One goes with the other.
So yes to your suggestion, if it's only xp per kill. And 0 gold gain. Nada. And then no upkeep.

Why gold? you should only get XP from duels, you are gaining blocking experience 8-)

I say 100 exp and 5 gold for every 6 seconds you spend in a duel as long as there's been a hit or a block during that 6 second period. This scales up to the normal 1000 exp and 50 gold per minute on seige/battle

I suggest to set Only 50 exp and 10 gold for each frag.

Why??
One of the reasons you go to duel is to avoid the xp/goldhungry mob, and to meet likeminded people who see the value in improving their skills (i.e potential recruits)

Duels Definately need gold and exp. Maybe a little amount but totally yes.
Nobody uses duels often bcause of no exp or gold. Some people enjoy duels more but need exp and gold for their character.
