This bothers me quite some time.
Usually all these topics about buff/ nerf start like this:
Some crybaby gets owned by a player of another class, is not mature enough to suck it up and starts whining on the forums to nerf the other class.
Or the other way around, some crybaby cant own a player of another class, and starts whining on the forums to buff his class.
Therefore, I think its kinda necessary that the developers, especially those that are responsable for games balance, do a lot of testing with all different possible builds and classes.
I know that Urist playes at least three different builds, but this is not enough. When we want to have a balanced (again, balanced, not close to history, realistic, whatever, simply balanced) game, he and the other for balance responsable people need to test with level 30 chars.
Now, we cant expect them to grind that much, so I say let them use a testing level 30 char. A char, where they can spend attribute and skill points and wpf, and after testing is done, they can reset it and spend the points again for another level 30 build.
Of course they wouldnt use this char in Strategus, but of course they need to test under real circumstances in crpg battles. I hope you understand that.
I hope you realize I m not a developer and never will be. So this suggestion is only selfish in one part, and there I am guilty: I d like to give every player the chance to play his favorite class and everyone should have the same chances to have success in a perfectly balanced game.

wait you're telling me the developers dont have level 30ish dev characters? just the characters that they normally play like everyone else?
is this a joke :?

This. And this is a problem. They dont know how a level 30 archer or a level 30 horseman feels to be played because they have no such char so its impossible for them to do the balance properly.
You can only judge things you really know from your own experience. Hear-say only priviliges the people who have the loudest voice to cry, and thats just not right.
Also, I would give them unlimited money so that they can test all gear.

No. Afaik chadz himself has no such testing char. At least none he uses in real crpg.
-
There are more imporant things to do - like coding ki strikes and a flaming blade for katana.
-
When chadz wishes to test a build, he simply copies someones character and plays it. He has done it before.
This suggestion is highly ridiculous and indeed somewhat insulting to the devs.

Insulting? Where?
I spend some time with this game and therefore I know the game is not balanced very well.
You dont have to be very smart to compare the upkeep costs.
When the same player can get a better k d ratio with a cheap Steppe horse or the Palfrey even than with the plated charger, thats not right.
As archer, I would wear nothing heavier than Leather, Light Leather, Warbow, 3x Bodkin Arrows or 2x and some spam poleaxe/ 2h. So you will make money all the time.
Same for 1h shield infantry, throwers.
Not balanced.
When they dont want to have cavalry (or some horses) in the game they should remove them, but def not "cheat" to get them out of the game.

You are insinuating that the devs are incapable of using their own database - which is kinda insulting
Just as explanation: All characters (their stats, their equipment and so on) are stored in a central database. chadz and the other devs can manipulate all data in there by hand. Creating a level 30 character for themselves is just a matter of some SQL statements that they write and execute by hand in 2 minutes or so.
-
Reduce the grind for everyone then :D
I don't mind if it's for testing purposes, just don't win 100 rounds in a row with a maxed out thrower. I would suggest using level31, you test it then delete the char. If you use it for playing normally, then i'm against it.

No, I want to have some fun leveling up my chars. The balancing aspect is secondary.

The only one who has access to database is chadz himself btw

Uhm... Horseman here. We're pretty much dead in terms of heavy, and it's still ball-busting to grab a light horse, especially when every player is armed with a 10-foot hafted blade or some bullshit. Being a Horseman is a tough, strategic job and does not make you all-powerful. It takes serious skill, especially now when a skilled archer could one-shot your horse...
So yeah... My "profession" has been nerfed if not brutally slaughtered. Good day sir.

Ok. So how exactly are tests done then? There are tests, right?
