Title: Absurd lance blocking.
Post by: Andropov on July 09, 2011, 08:04:21 pm
If I'm charging at you at 20 miles an hour on a courser and stab you with a lance, you should not be able to block it. Make it so without a shield, it is impossible to block a lance attack.

OP and silly, in fact, lancers are getting fucked next patch, as Paul officially confirmed it.

I suggest you change classes to either 1/2hander cav or just go archer.

haha,  its fun to see somebody looking at lancing from this perspective : D

but no.  even historically,  it happened that people deflected lances with things as small as a one handed axe,  got into the lancers attack and slashed his head killing him.  i think there´s a documented case of some scottish king doing this too a noob lancer.

In fact, couched lances are unstoppable by weapons (I don't know if they can be chamber blocked or not)

Game balance.

Try couching, press X when that little red dot above your lance turns into a white dot.

If you had the post which he posted this, it would be worth a read. The problem with donkeys is that they tend to troll.

Love the gamers view of that haha, made me think of that King turning around and shouting "Ha-ha! Thou art a noob!" Thanks for the laugh Torben xD

But yes, I get frustrated by being stabbed by a lance while "inside" the horse. (Horse hits me, I fall down while underneath the horse the lancer is able to stab through his own horses head to kill me.)
Just thing of it as someone knocking the attack out of the way, because technically that's what you would do to deflect a lance, you wouldn't put the sword in the way, you'd flick it out of the way, back when I used to do my martial arts and watching my brother these days, most of the attacks are moved off their original course, away from the body of the defender, the principle is the same.

Problem is you can't think of it as a solid block. It looks that way because that's the only way Warband allows for. In reality blocking ect relies more on deflection than it does solid blocking. At least decent sword fighting does, I'd assume the principle applies to most melee weapons. Solid blocking would be painful in most cases if the blow had any force (vibrations down the weapon, ouch). Hell, go get 2 hefty sticks, give it to a mate, tell him to whack your solid block as hard as he can and then tell me it doesn't hurt to hold the stick. You can't view Warband blocking for how it's displayed, use your imagination a bit
