This wouldn't truly allow everyone an equal opportunity. Wealthy families pass on benefits to their children through superior education, power, prestige, contacts, ect.

I think your view concerning a rich family is slightly jaded to be honest.

General Discussion / Re: Chamber blocks only

As I have noticed....

I have graduated to a spiked mace and shield now. I was using the knife for chamber blocking practice mostly. I only use the shield after one of my chamber blocks gets blocked and I am doing alright so far. I really recomend that people try building an alternate like this, it is a very different feel then all that spamming/feinting that the rest of the game is composed of. I am really liking my pathetically weak AGI character, despite the fact that I recieve WAY more deaths than kills and many strikes deflect.

Communism
The apple tree is owned by the workers, labored upon by the workers, and in turn the fruits go to the workers.

Capitalism
The apple tree is owned by the investors, labored upon by the workers, and the fruits go to the investors. In a fully-fledged, unregulated capitalist economy there is no minimum wage, only a "living" wage. The workers are given enough apple to feed and sustain themselves but never enough apple to allow them to become anything other than a worker.

America is obviously not as extreme as either of these two, but neither is China nor was the USSR. There has never been a state that was as Communist as above, but there have been and still are states as capitalist as the example.

@roymorrison, of course you personally aren't responsible for poverty or hunger, but what is?  [sarcasm]clearly it must be that they are lazy, they have no initiative or drive or are stupid[/sarcasm]. You aren't at fault but neither are they.

Also, people constantly point to the failure/poverty of socialist states like the USSR, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, China but what of the poverty of capitalist states in Latin America, Africa, and Asia?

What history did your professors teach?

Believe it or not, many historians are not considering the possibility that religion predated and necessitated governments and civilization. Look up the Göbelki Tepe temple in Turkey.

At the moment I am playing using the Kyhber knife with no shield and little armor.  The Kyhber knife's inability to block means I can only chamber block.  has anyone ever tried anything similar?

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: I need advice for throwing weapons
« on: May 31, 2011, 09:52:57 pm »
To be honest, war darts are the best throwing weapons at the moment. Nearly all other throwing weapons received major decreases in the number of weapons you can carry per slot.  War darts are very accurate, can be thrown quickly, you can throw many of them, and though the damage is woefully low, it still is piercing damage, which is a plus.

Yeah, I saw the above arguments and I *did* search, I was just looking for something more definitive, but I guess that isn't to be had...

Is there or is there not a speed and damage penalty when equiping a polearm and a shield?

I have heard both stated hear on the forums.

EDIT: Also, personally testing I can not see the speed penalty, simply through playing it *feels* like there is a damage penalty, but what do I know

I see now that many of you enter battle with empty slots.  Is the encumberance bonus worth it or are you honnestly crippling yourself by not occupying all slots?

General Off Topic / Re: Nuclear Power Plants ... do we need them ?
« on: March 19, 2011, 03:22:14 am »
Do we need them?

Yes, especially if new alternatives are not found soon.  Hydro and wind power will probably never be able to be practical as a primary source of energy.  Nuclear, gerothermal, and solar seem to be the way forward.

With the installation of the first fusion plant in France maybe our problems will be solved sooner than we think.

Please you Muslim guys need to chill the fuck out. Don't make me bring out the history of the spread of Islam as comparison, cause it isn't pretty. It is no different than any other conquest or war based on religion, i.e using religion as an excuse and justification but truly all about power and wealth.

Oh you mean mainly through peaceful means, namely trade and missionary work?  Also bringing about a golden era of unprecedented prosperity and scientific advancement for many years to come?  Roman Catholicism was spread by the sword, the spread of Islam was violent at points, but ultimately is more comparable to the spread of Buddhism than Catholicism.

I am Roman Catholic fyi

Anywho, being that I am Roman Catholic, I feel obliged to bring up an important point:

The Church during the middle ages was unfortunately very political.  When the Eastern Roman Empire asked

Anywho, being that I am Catholic, I'd say its important to point out that the original purpose of the crusades was to supply the Byzantine armies with supplemental troops to fight along with the Byzantines.  Instead the greedy and un-united indivdual lords went about sacking Byzantium, vandalizing this, massacuring that.  Ultimately, the Crusades were forgotten by the Muslims as petty squables compared to their internal fractures and subjugation by various nomadic groups

The middle ages are a dark time for the Roman Catholic Church where the clergy held political power in the lack of any large effective government.
