Title: In your opinion: How physically damaged is a body at 0hp?
Post by: Admerius on September 05, 2014, 04:22:11 pm
TL;DR Choose the two options that  matches your view in most cases(not B0nk skullcrusher smash to head, but the average ingame death)

Long description
I'm curious on what you think being reduced to 0 hp means. My own view is that: being reduced to 0hp(death) is equal to being defeated for the remainder of the round.
On EU1/EU2 Siege: Injury that stops you from being able to participate for at least 7 min.
On Conquest maps: it's the identical reasoning but round time limit(15-45min) instead of 7 min

My choice: 3&4

Edit: Fixed topic title, many of the early posts are correctly befuddled by my lack of proofreading before posting pointing out my poor topic title typing skills

You expect quality on a forum devoted to a mod?

He's trying to ask what dying in the game actually is.

I don't know why, dying is dying.

The reasoning behind this topis is to get a feel for what you see as "dying" in this mod.

There's a huge difference between utterly destroyed body(last poll option) and the mid options... merely incapacitated.

IF... this becomes a representation of what people see as 0hp/character death then this will be a valuable resource to use to balance weapon damage & armour values around.

***NOTE: The following example only mentions weapon damage, not armour values and all other game mechanics that affect lethality***
If I was an item balancer with focus on balancing gameplay around community expectations on lethality then...
..if the last option would get a majority I would increase damage difference between heavy weapons(bardiche, Great maul) and puny weapons (daggers etc.)

...if the mid options got the biggest majority I would decrease damage difference slightly.

3 & 4 make the most sense because in Native, you can take prisoners of war if they were defeated by a blunt weapon (3) and sometimes even heal people that were attacked by cut weapons and lost consciousness (4) when you have a troop member with high healing skill. So they are not dead yet.

0hp character death physically means virtually surfing the internet.

Your body has suffered just enough bizarre damage to make for a mediocre episode of House, and you'll be up and at 'em next round.

I'd say one good bleeding or bone breaking impact would be sufficient. There are legends of people who kept fighting with limbs torn apart (even after getting beheaded) or wounds bleeding all over them, but needless to say those are just legends.

If you drown to death, do you just go to sleep and never wake up?

Dying but just enough to live and fight for another 10 minutes

I'd say one good bleeding or bone breaking impact would be sufficient. There are legends of people who kept fighting with limbs torn apart (even after getting beheaded) or wounds bleeding all over them, but needless to say those are just legends.

Not as legendary as it would seem, I cant find it now, but there was a video of an historical arms expert that explained how the sword duels with one stab/slash endings were unrealistic. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug and he compared this to swordfighting techniques in medieval fencing books. The "finishing" moves you typically see there are not wide arm overhand chops or lunging swings because that makes you vournable to retaliation from the "dead" enemy you chopped up.

They are more conservative with defensive halfswording options and stances because even when you, for instance, put a blade trough someones gut they are still perfectly capable of gripping their weapon and counterattacking. Thus the only true "one hit kill" as described in the video, in the OPs instance last option, would be decapitating the head or severe bodily trauma. Then again, you dont need to "one hit" someone, incapacitating them then halfswording or with a dagger slipping trough the seems of late medieval plate would do the job. That or blunt trauma. So i would probably go for option 3 and 4
