Title: Namechange
Post by: BASNAK on February 28, 2014, 12:06:48 am
All right so I tried changing my name from Garlic_Fujitsu to Noble_Garlic as a clantag. And have been denied twice.

Full name changes are not allowed. You can fix typos or add a clan tag.

Explanation? I don't see why it would be denied.

There's alot of arbitration involved. Sometimes they accept, sometimes they don't...

From what ive collected from canary, EU and NA admins accept all name changes so if you are EU and an NA admin denies your name change it would be because they do not know what your specific name is. When  i tried to change my name from Horns_Donkey_Dockter_MD to Horns_Badunka_Dunker_MB the name change was denied twice, both by EU admins. I was able to get the name change accepted by talking with Canary and there was no problem.

TL;DR ask your respective continents admins that know your specific name to accept name changes or have the devs make it EU accepts EU and NA accepts NA.

In first case your clantag was Garlic which you intended to change to Noble.
In first case your nickname was Fujitsu which you intended to change to Garlic.

Now it is clear why, as you wanted to change both clan tag and nickname, which is not allowed, your request was denied.

Don't they have access to/ have logs?

You may think a char name is always Tag_name but see HRE for example, we do it name_Tag (Miwiw_HRE).
At the first glance denying Garlic's namechange seems okay but on the second you see his name is Garlic and not Noble or Fujitsu.^^

Probably depends on the admin who checks it.

and Horns, seeing your name, if someone doesn't know you, it could be thought that your clan tag is "Horns"...

Only three name change requests up at the moment (all of which I accepted).

Sometimes it can be a little difficult to see which parts of names are actually the people, most of the time, common sense is enough to work out that if a part of the name is staying then that is their name, however, I personally don't accept larger name changes, and some people do try and abuse the system by changing part of the name, and then a little while later, changing the other half, thereby getting a full name change. (I'm not accusing anyone of course, just stating that some people have decided to do that in the past :))

Some prefixes can seem to be part of the name as well, so that might get a little confusing, particularly if the player isn't known, we can't memorise everyone! :)

Of course, as usual, some can just slip through the net. If you ARE having issues with name changes, contact an admin, that's more than acceptable but please don't go "I did a name change, accept it" 10 minutes after you've done it. There used to be a 24 hour penalty for people who did that, some old schoolers might well enforce it! :D

For 100% success rate you need to change to Noble_Fujitsu then Noble_Garlic, because 50% of the time the admin doesnt know you and when they dont they will have an outsider point of view of what is your nickname and what is your tag. And the common principle is clantag_nickname, so what you asked first might have been seen as a total change of nickname which is forbidden.

That's unnecessary. If admins are unsure, they can always select "review later" which leaves it open for other people to do it.
Most admins work on a common sense routine, and doing a double change like that will likely spark suspicion that you're doing a full name change with multiple tag changes. I don't recommend following that.

As I say, if you have problems, or a potentially confusing nickname, drop someone a line on IRC or something, best policy in my opinion. Information is King.
