Title: Crosshair on request
Post by: Meow on November 20, 2012, 06:07:46 pm
So someone requested my crosshair:
(click to show/hide)

Here you go.

Install:
Download http://road-house.org/crpg/crosshair/meowcrosshair.rar
Extract into your Warband directory, make sure the folder structure stays in tact, overwrite old files.

Uninstall (Naive crosshair):
Download http://road-house.org/crpg/crosshair/nativecrosshair.rar
Extract into your Warband directory, make sure the folder structure stays in tact, overwrite old files.

Hope it works, had to redo it for release and didn't get time to test.

oh yeah, there are a lot of edited crosshairs, this one only uses the straight part of the three parts which are used to display it on the screen so it's easy to modify and won't looks strange on the diagonal edges.

Also have another aim for another mod which apparently adjust the aim for the range you shoot at, but I wont use it in cRPG :P

That is actually interesting since I remember someone saying that it wasn't possible in the engine.

Need to check it out for science

I have been using this crosshair about half an year now. It has this color scale which indicates how far target is. It is awesome because it can help u to revise distance from u to a target pretty well. I have find this helpfull  especially against distant targets like cavalery.

Hey guys, there's also a way to make all the brushes and shrubs (and "farm crops") appear flat on the ground.

So you can see right through them like they are flat on the ground, while people with their default (read noob) settings have to worry about seeing around these obstacles.

I bet you could also make character models have massive spikes coming out of them and have it indicate which way they are facing, this will allow you to sneak up on people easier.

Would it be cool to make my walls semi-transparent?  I mean not fully transparent, that would be totally cheating.

I shouldn't have to do this, but I'm sure some people's detectors are broken:  /sarcasm

I remember when I was in the Ninja clan, one of the members (don't remember who) had this glitch where the walls / buildings of the map just went completely invisible, so he was able to see what was on the other side of the wall, but he didn't know it was there either :P

In reality it's not THAT bad, but where do you draw the line?  Neon colored arrows?  Neon colored weapons?  Flattening bushes into the ground?  Having a spikey arrow show the direction a player is facing (that pokes through walls), making the wall files transparent?

I prefer to leave most of my games graphics/UI default, except for what you can customize in game.  I realize this is going to put me at a disadvantage when I'm running through a field of corn, but I'm okay with that.

I just pretend that the enemies who "mysteriously see me in the middle of the corn field" have some superhuman sense of smell or something. Makes it more fun when you kill them too! :D

I just want a tiny dot in the middle where the IDEAL arrow would go with no drop. That's it. I can mentally account for drop over distance, and I know how to count so I'll know when my accuracy has gone bad since I've held it for too long.
I just want a dot. Just a tiny dot. Doesn't have to grow and shrink, nothing. I've never been able to find anything like that, but I haven't looked very hard. I don't need the game holding my hand, it only messes up my aim.

Does anybody know of such? Link me, seriously. it'd make my life when I am archer much easier than these dumb crosshairs. Minimalist tiny dot or x in the middle.

I don't think that's possible. Unless you're using fpp mode the arrow release point is way lower than your eyes level, meaning even if we made make a crosshair that matches arrow's position at some point, it would be only at that certain point, after that the arrow would go above it. In other words, you'd need to "calibrate" that crosshair on particular distance and for particular bow. But obviously arrows don't go in straight line, so what could be done is to use the crosshair to mark flying arrow's highest point before the drop and don't ever touch your +/- buttons on tpp camera control. Still though you'd need to aim above to hit targets that are closer than this ideal range (and it all stops working when you're shooting above or below too).

Or you could just paint a dot on your screen like everyone else.

I downloaded Meows crosshair but it feels kind a different "weird" like it some how calculates altitude somehow differently. Meow is there something more about this crosshair than it looks?

Kinda possible it's Y axis placement is different because when I still played I adjusted it for 3rd person view at mid range with a tatar bow but I thought I readjusted it to native settings.
Best way to find out is to take a screen with the default and mine then check those.

Something like that looks almost perfect, even if it isn't my ideal case.
I want something small like that, maybe even smaller.

you should upload that/tell me how you did it

that's fine. have it adjusted for 5 meters distance from first person, 100% accurate. make that a tiny .  like this period.

I generally agree. But the native crosshair is truly awful it really needs updating.

If you're using first person then any crosshair is good, three-dots crosshair is already included in compatible mods thread (link in my sig). You can just change the color of it to whatever you like in Photoshop or any other program.  Removing actual shrink/expand animation would be a bit cheating, I think.

About Meow's crosshair, I looked into the included .brf file and it has a modified Y axis (burn the hax), meaning it should work fine with some bows at certain range.

One of the reasons I never cared about comptetive Warband-playing, lack of any anti-cheat system. Especially in Native, where ranged is OP through the roof.

Sure, have fun.  Grumpy Crosshair (http://depositfiles.com/files/fvo66fww8)

Simply edited one of those minimalist crosshairs around ( .dds file )  with the ultra PRO mega Scientific Paint.net to something appealing to me. Might need some extra stuff (daylight snow maps are a pain) but cba yet to do it.

Damn, means the backup of the native crosshair I had also had the Y axis modified =/
Thought I moved it back but I might have forgotten to save.

The one I use is adjusted for 3rd person 10-20m range with a tatar bow at 4PD.
Mostly did it because I didn't play ranged for ages and figured I'd change it before I get used to it.
People who played with the native heights will probably have trouble adjusting their shots which is why I wanted to release it with native Y.
