Long story short, most of the time i play with what looks like shaders off, and sometimes its quick shaders on, then off. Got it also with different settings (but with high quality shaders it's just wooden buildings and players if i remember correctly, not ground like on abysmal/low)(with different cube/normal/difuse/specular values i get it too).

The other way around, it's bright vast majority of time and goes dark for a second, bright, dark, bright, dark. Sometimes it stays dark for few seconds (3 or so).

I don't think it's random. For example on duel map (ruins) i get normal shaders (dark) in spectator, but after i go equip screen it turns bright. Also, when looking in certain direction (less shader demanding?) it turns dark, and once when i played duels it turned dark for good. It goes disco always (except that one game when it was always dark) when i accept duel.

Another place when it more often turn dark is in siege tower on various siege maps).

I didn't tested it while staying in one place not moving the mouse, will try to recreate it.

The goal of Strategus battles shouldnt be to deprive your enemies of players, but to have full roster both sides and have the gear/tactics/strategy win the day rather than lack of merc support.

not on this client recently. i did it few times before, and it was same as without alt tabbing (ie. disco)

I remember I had something like this on dx7 [normal client], but only after alt+enter, on new map everything returned to normal. It never happened randomly or on different settings. When I changed graphics card and dx7 to dx9 never happen again.

bDynamicBannerTransparency=false was responsible for it. Now it's fixed.

But regarding the question. There was 1 instance where it turned black - just sky and siege flag. There were multiple instances where it goes disco for prolonged amount of time, i did screens but it's easier to said that movable props make it kick in quite often (gate wheel, siege tower)(occluded by other models or not).


New client, same issue. This time around, if i stand in one place its stable dark or light. dynamic banner transparency don't solve it this time around.

Dynamic banner transparency has nothing to do with it, it was probably just random.
I tried adding a fix in the next version, but it's a shot in the dark since I'm not even sure what the problem is. If it still happens, post here.

Most likely it's some transparency issue. Always when it's light the ground transparency is off and all shadows are off (those are also transparency layer, right?).

I don't know if it's true, but can it be related to changing texture compression format from one with alpha to one without to (i presume) reduce required data transported from memory to gpu ? It's uneducated guess. I'll try to check different configs.
