What you are trying to propose is mandatory fighting to get more troops to be able to fight again and get even more troops so you could....

There are so many flaws i dont know where to start from... Well i started i guess with that quote and the sentence below.
Quincy Clan played a neutral role last round and we had so few battles it silly even to mention it. So basically with this system it will be next to impossible to have neutral clans.
There enough reason to fight each other without making a reason to fight each other in order to fight each other more.
Also, stat whoring is big enough without making renown another "new big thing"...
I dont have time to write more atm but if ppl rly like this idea i will...

I don't like the idea in this thread but ahaha if you play strategus and don't fight you deserve to be punished heavily.
Clans like yours are the reason it is stale and bad a lot of the time.

In my opinion the only reason 1h/2h cav is too strong right now is because even if they run at you full speed and you hit their horse it doesn't die and then they follow through and hit you and usually kill you.

Just nerf horse survivability against melee and suddenly those classes become balanced because no longer can they just run at people knowing they're gonna get hit.

Would also have the effect of making it easier for lance cav to kill 1h/2h cav which they should be doing easily. Whereas now as every lance cav player knows, you can pretty much avoid dieing to 1h/2h cav completely but actually dehorsing them is ridiculously hard because of how many hits any horse takes from a lance with the low damage.

Shields are overrated for cavalry, you should pretty much never be in a situation where a projectile is going to shoot you without negative speed bonus. Waste of skill points.

Also yeah, i can handle most other melee classes, ofc i'll take damage attacking them when they are aware of me, but while i can 1 or 2 hit them usually they need more hits to kill me or my horse.

This right here is the main problem with 1h cavalry, not the damage. It's that horses take way too many melee hits to die so even if you outplay an enemy cav player as melee it doesn't matter.

The only situation where lancers do better than 1h cav is while fighting HA/HX because the have a higher range, but except for that 1h cav has all of the advantages, therefore i think that the extra damage that 1h cav gets out of speed bonus should be reduced.

1h cav can't really 1v1 any melee player, even against 1handers they have to take considerable damage to their horse to be able to hit the enemy. Thats the advantage lancers have over them.

The damage is pretty high but without it why would you ever be 1h cav instead of lancer.

I think what everyone is saying is there's no way a 1h stab with a short sword should wreck both the armored horse and rider.

Every melee hit should completely wreck a cav player if it's at speed, it's your own fault for being bad enough to get hit by a "1h stab with a short sword". Things like that should do MORE damage to punish the masses of completely awful cavalry players who get away with making mistakes far too much.

You can outrange a hoplite with a Heavy Lance if you do it right, though it of course requires a pretty open area and him to be alone, and they can just choose to block instead of trying to hit you and be unkillable (the problem with hoplites in melee also) but yeah hoplites are more of a problem for any class than long spears, atleast with them they have pretty severe downsides to negate the benefits of using one unlike hoplites.

But anyway on the main topic -
The main reason for people using armoured horses now is the fact that they are still 5 riding which means there is literally no reason to not use one if you have the gold. Personally I don't think the lighter horses dieing fast to ranged is that big of a deal because if you are using a rouncey, destrier or courser you should be able to melee perfectly fine too, so if your horse gets shot down after you kill 1-2 guys on horseback i'd say they are almost just like having free kills.

I think you should have to invest heavily in riding to use armoured horses, so much so that your melee will be severely limited. They should be for dedicated cavalry players, who need to have their horse live for a long time to utilize their build because they suck when they aren't a horse. It is really stupid that you can add 5 riding to any melee build and you will 100% increase your KDR by a huge amount just using a heavy horse.

If all the armoured horses were 8 riding requirement they would be a lot more balanced, skill based and just generally fun for everyone. High riding builds are fun for the cavalry player, heavy cav actually having a downside is fun for melee and ranged players, and anyone who likes to use the other horses with their melee/cav hybrids suddenly doesn't feel like they are just gimping themselves by not using an armoured horse.

If anything the new WPF changes make the cavalry builds with more riding worse sadly, as the main high riding builds before then were the 18/24, 15/27, 12/30 ones and all of them have no room for weapon master which means your damage will be drastically lower now.

If you want a really high damage cavalry build currently without athletics, your best bet would be 21/18 or 18/21, however I would say that both of those are not worth the extra 1 riding you get at the sacrifice of all your athletics. So you should probably just go 21/15 or 18/18 and enjoy being able to melee fine for only a very small trade off.
