Thought we could use a thread to tell the stories of our experiences with this little mod, instead of clogging up the main thread. They can be small gunfight anecdotes, or a whole journal if you wish.
Full Story:
So my first real character (that I played for more than an hour without dying) was the first bit of fun Ive actually had playing DayZ. I started on the east side of Electro and made my slowly into the city. I managed to scavenge a few bits and pieces but nothing major so I made my way into the school, at which point I see someone creeping through the halls. Now, everytime I have seen someone so far, theyve put a bullet in me but against my better judgement I still asked if he was friendly first. To my delight, he replied with 'Yes, im not after another damn shootout'. As a show of good faith he gave me some morphine and a hatchet and i gave him one of my makarov mags as he was running low; then we went our separate ways.
After taking a break to go to work, I came back to a server at night time and managed to scavenge a few useful things in the rest of Electro (compass, watch, some matches and a 1911 with a few mags) but it was pretty slim pickings in terms of guns and ammo so I decided to set off for Cherno. Just as I was on the western outskirts of Electro: DISASTER!!!! Just as I was crawling through a pretty thick mess of zeds, the server spazzed out and I started to lose connection but the zombies kept getting closer. I kept hoping the server would reconnect me but instead i just heard the frenzied cries of aggroed zombies and the sound of my face being bashed in. In a panic I tried to alt-f4, alt-x, alt-tab but nothing worked. Eventually the server crashed outright.
Upon reconnecting I found to my surprise I was still alive, yet with only around 1k blood left after bandaging myself. Regardless of the setback, I continued towards cherno, fainting every 5 minutes and hoping zombies didnt eat my unconscious face. The first building I happened up was like a gold mine. Two 1911 mags, A hunting crossbow and a few bolts as well as enough food to get me back up to 2.5k blood. After sneaking around a bit more, I saw a flare go up about 100m away so I went to investigate, at which point I saw 2 guys exchanging fire with someone in a tower.
Not wanting to attract attention, I snuck around and tried to find myself a better primary in a nearby house. Just as I came out the other side a flare flew across me about 10m away and I immediately hit the ground and saw someone peeking his head around a fence with his makarov drawn. I aimed my cross bow but missed and he quickly ducked away. I didnt think Id given away my position so I stayed still in partial shadow. Before I could react, 2 flares landed pretty close to me and made me fully illuminated. I had 2 options: run for it and hope I dont get shot in the back or stay prone and fight. I opted for the latter, thinking that if I win, Id be pretty stocked up.
I switched to my 1911, knowing now that there was 2 of them. The same guy popped his head out again and I fired a few shots, managing to hit him at least once, but before I could reload bullets started hitting the ground all around me and I panicked, got up and ran away. I managed to get around the corner of the house I was in before and I peeked round with my 1911, catching them off guard as the ran after me. I unloaded my whole magazine and managed to kill one before being shot and knocked out by the other and then finished off.
So ended my first real foray into DayZ.
Tl;Dr
I found some decent stuff, didnt get shot on site by a player, had a shootout with a pair in cherno, killed one, died to the other.
Not the most epic of stories but im sure ill have a better one in time.

I would like some advice on which GPU to go for in terms of power, survivability and value for money. Im on a budget though so dont really want to go above a GTX 570 or Radeon 7850 (since the price of cards beyond these two seem increase at a steep rate). Im currently favouring the GTX560ti but im not so sure since it's already reasonably old.
