Game is to be found aplenty in the rich forests surrounding the town and the monks of the nearby monastery provide spiritual guidance to the townsfolk. Perched high upon an island cliff, this ancient castle is one with the rock it takes its name from. The old folk say there have always been men seeking shelter on the natural defences this island provides and that never has an enemy set foot upon the top of the rock - even more so since the impressive rows of fortifications have been built many generations ago.

This castle has has withstood the test of time and the fires of men. Now all that burns are the fiery hearts of the defenders. Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?

Strategus General Discussion / Top Secret FCC Strat Intel Leaked!
« on: June 11, 2013, 12:44:25 am »
Ladies and gentlemen,

Have you wondered how the FCC manages to perfectly coordinate their armies on the Strat map to perform spot on concentrated attacks and form impenetrable defenses? How they are always kind of at the right place at the right time? Have you thought "Gosh, they must have amazing planning skills!"? How they must just be extremely good at what they are doing?

Fellow Strategians, you have all been fooled.

As part of the FCC Strat faction, I have been able to live among them. To watch them. To study them. To earn their trust.

The truth of what I found to be the reason of the FCC success in Strat is shocking, to say the least. My friends, the information I am about to unveil is so secret, it deserves its own graphic:

And yes, we are talking TOP SECRET, with a red box around it!

Why am I revealing this information? I am not sure myself. Partially maybe because the advantage the FCC is just too great. Partially because I feel for their enemies. Partially because there is no punishment against this (as of yet) in the rules. Partially because I am merely human and unable to contain such shattering truths. Do not judge me for my deeds, only judge me for my intent.

Without further ado, I give you the reason for FCC Strat supremacy -

Please treat this information confidentially.

How many times have we seen this:

Guy means to enter a fief, accidentally clicks on attack instead. Everyone gets hyped over nothing; false drama = bad drama.

Please add a simple message (popup?) that has to be confirmed before a fief is attacked as opposed to entered:

Are you sure you want to attack Nova chadzia?

Strategus General Discussion / Gear Repair Option
« on: May 31, 2013, 09:13:28 pm »
Problem:
You spend weeks building an army. You are finally done, strutting around like a prize dog with your shiny, triple loomed gear peen of internet glory. All is well in the lands of Calradia.

But then comes the first battle. Even though you might have won it, your items list is a mess of various layers of broken stuff after the fight. Your items look something like this:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And for half your inventory the only option is to sell the broken stuff and find a place where you can buy it new again. Seriously, who does not hate that?

Question:
Selling/scrapping stuff when it is broken is something you do in real life as well with, let's say your car, your computer or your relationship (if you ever had one), right? Basically all the valuable things in life, right? And thank god you do, the economy would be in much worse shape if you didn't.

"No!" you say? You say things can be fixed sometimes instead of being replaced? Hold on now, are we on to something here?

Solution:
Implement a repair option for broken Strat stuff.

Allow repairs of broken gear in any fief up to the "normal" (+0) item state. Allow repairs to higher item states (+1, +2, +3) in places where the appropriate points have been invested. Something like this:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Price the repairs according to the base item value divided by the maximum levels (8 levels; -4 to +3). Then multiply by the number of levels to be repaired to get to the normal state (+0). For example:

Mail Mittens - base price: 15 gold
Repair costs: 15 gold / 8 levels = 1.875 gold per level

Repair from -4 to normal (+0):
4 levels of repair --> 1.875 x 4 = 7.5 gold repair cost

Repair from -2 to normal (+0):
2 levels of repair --> 1.875 x 2 = 3.75 gold repair cost

The same works for fiefs with points invested:
Repair from -4 to +3:
8 levels of repair --> 1.875 x 8 = 15 gold repair cost

Additional advantages:
- Encourages travel, since players with un-loomed gear can roam the lands and upgrade their gear at the appropriate fiefs
- Limits battles where some inventory items are initially not available (locked) because too many items appear, some of which is because different levels of items are in the inventory

General Discussion / horse+rider is op.
« on: March 25, 2013, 07:41:52 pm »
Started playing recently and noticed how op they are compared to who uses foot.

Horse insta runs away from any incoming attack just by clicking w and you don't even need to guess where he is going to attack to counter it, you run away and leaves the enemy open for slashes.

When you use foot you have to see and have amazing reflexes to be able to avoid his incoming attack the bad thing is that even if you do avoid it they just can keep on swinging without stopping and unless you have a super op speed horse you will die a painfull death.

so on and so on.

First up, this is not a whine thread. I would like to understand if the community feels the change of crossbows (light and regular) to 2 slots was warranted and what the pro's & con's are.

2 SLOT XBOWS YAY or NAY?

Pro's of the change:
  • Less ranged on the battlefield
  • Works around the issue of no dedicated point investment necessary to use a crossbow (for some build types only - see below)

Con's of the change:
  • Almost entirely eliminating the "class" of 2 handed sword and polearm crossbow hybrids (there are no valid one-slot 2 handers besides the mace, three* 1 handers in alternative mode, and a very limited amount of on slot polearms available)
  • Further discourages hybrids and promotes dedicated strength/agi builds
  • Reduction of variety on the battlefield
  • Affects only certain build types, not 1hd xbow users
  • No incentive (besides price) to use the regular xbow over the heavy xbow or arbalest anymore
  • Need for massive respecs/training lessons
  • Inadvertently buffed horse crossbows in this patch. 2h/pole users can't carry a crossbow sidearm anymore, so there will be even fewer threats to HX

Was the feeling in the community that the combination of two-slot main weapon and one-slot crossbow + bolts was overpowered? Is the intention to make all crossbow users 1 handers only? Was there simply too much ranged in game?

Are there alternatives to fix the con's without resulting in two-slot crossbows? Is this only a way to address the root cause issue: no dedicated point investment necessary to use an xbow?

Discuss and I will add your comments to the pro's and con's.

Diplomacy / The Siege of Yruma Castle
« on: November 07, 2012, 10:02:23 pm »
Laughter and crude songs could be heard floating over from the main camp of the Remnant army stationed outside of Yruma Castle, the last fortified bastion of KUTT. Preparations for the siege that would start later this night were in full effect and in good tradition of the Remnants before battle, beer and mead were flowing in large quantities.

In the command tent on the hill overlooking the killing field, the generals and strategusists of the Remnants were mulling over their battle strategy.

Remnant Noddles, Supreme Commander and Master Lubricator of this great Remnant army, several thousand men and spaghetti armed girls strong, was surveying once again the castle defenses laid out in front of him. He made an impressive sight, like a statue of a hero of old, standing on the hill, one hand shielding his eyes against the sinking sun, the other firmly planted inside the front of his breeches, gently moving back and forth. He grunted his approval to what he saw and must have felt at this defining moment in history.

Back in the tent, Elindor, Archon of the Holy Guard, the Remnants oldest allies, traced his finger across the map he had drawn of the castle and surrounding areas. The landscape, with its two adjacent great hills and two smaller hills on top and centered on each of the larger hills vaguely resembled a woman's breasts. To the south of the hills, past a small lake, a river bent sharply around a brush of smaller trees, forming an upside down V. It was into this reversed V that Elindor was stabbing furiously with his finger, all the while addressing Remnant Dexxtaa with his strategy proposal: "Sire, battalion D should be pushing hard into this natural V! From within the cover of these bushes we will be able to mount a surprise attack upon the rear of the enemy fortifications!". Dexxtaa seemed to flush in anticipation of this bold attempt to catch the foe with their pants down.

At the base of the hill, Remnant Sauce was in discussion with his self styled Miracle of Engineering on the conditions of their siege gear. Sauce, his brow wrinkled in concern, was glancing between the catapult and the heavy stones laying next to it. With a suspicious look on his face he addressed Miracle: "Does this thing even lift?" Miracle, always confident of his engineering skills that he had mastered and honed to perfection during a 30 minute training session, replied: "What the fuck do I know? It depends what we load the catapult with!". Sauce, Master Strategusist and Head Crab of the Remnants, scratched his beardless chin in thought. Suddenly, an evil grin stole upon his lips. Miracle, full well suspecting that Sauce might have an ingenious idea that could decide the fate of this battle, curiously posed the question: "What did you have in mind? What would you fling among our pitiful foes?". Sauce, a trace of madness in his eyes, screamed the answer into the setting sun: "MEEEAAAAT!"

In the meanwhile, Remnant dynamike had spent valuable time and well thought out planning to build several large siege towers in various crucial locations in preparation for the siege to come: the nearby lake could now be rapidly entered from great height from several siege towers and the army be supplied with fish caught from atop the platforms. Nobody could fault dynamike and his ingenious plans that the lake - after multiple tries - proved far too shallow for diving and the fishing lines to short to reach the surface. At least the siege tower built in the middle of the Remnant camp's latrine dugouts was useful to avoid the smell when defecating from its top. Only the falling feces caused some havoc among passer by's.

A song drifted over from the great fire in the main camp again and Noddles listened to the old war song the Remnants Maedae and Tom Cruise chanted in a duet. Tears filled his eyes when he thought back to all the memories this song brought with it, so closely intertwined in the history of the Remnants, and from the pain that went through his bowels. At last pulling up his pants and clasping shut his belt, he climbed down from the latrine siege tower, wiped away the tears and marched towards his men to ready them for the assault, all the while hearing the almost sacred words of the great artist Justinius Bieberian being sung in the background.

As the sun settled over the KUTT castle, everything seemed well prepared for the assault to come. The Remnants and their allies high five'd each other for the gods of Swords and Horses were with them and tonight they would dine in helluva castle!
