Title: Monster Hunter World
Post by: Gravoth_iii on January 30, 2018, 01:27:00 pm

So ive created like 2 other monster hunter threads, well this is the big game. Its finally here! PC release is delayed untill fall i believe so FeelsBadMan, and i thought i could keep my hands off untill then but... so ive been following like 6 different streamers playing it to get a good look and satisfy a bit of the need to play, but each one of them has given it outstanding reviews and keep singing its praise everytime they play. It is the game that has now forced me to buy a ps4 (tho i do have some other titles in mind, so its not a 1 game console purchase).

Anyone else onboard? Would be nice to exchange psn to do some co-op later, tho i might do most of the game solo since ive had bad experiences with co-op'ing in previous titles (people die and fail my missions, especially many in the wii game. Ive already seen streamers fall to the same trap).

Some info on the game. Changes from previous titles include

-Each map (i think there are around 6 or 7 diverse themed maps) is a biiig map with layers and layers to navigate, changed from small areas with loading screens between. Gorgeous looking maps i might add.
-Navigating maps is very smooth, a new addition to the movement is sliding downhills which happens automatically and is one of the coolest things ive seen to modify movement so seemlessly, also used for momentum based jump attacks to mount monsters.
-Gathering most everything is very quick and done on the run, tho with less from each node. Much more convenient than previously.
-Almost every mission has multiple monster, and they will now interract with eachother, some have turf wars which means that suddenly when you are fighting some monster, a bigger one might appear to fuck up said monster because that mofo is in the wrong hood. A fucking dragon might appear to pick up and drop a t-rex down a ledge, or he might blast your face with fire. While similar things could happen in previous titles, it was very uncommon and not at all to the depth and amazing display of chaos this one produces. There can be up to 3(!) monsters fighting eachother excluding the hunter himself.
-DLC is confirmed and is from my knowledge going to be free as it has always been in previous titles. This means there will be new monsters regularly, and maybe even launches into higher ranks of difficulty as supposedly G-rank is not in currently, which was considered the end game previously.
-Weapon upgrade trees have been made much more accessible, and convenient. As have monster info, you can gather intel by fighting them or finding traces and inspecting their behaviour to find out what they are weak to and what parts to break/sever.
-Around 15 unique weapon types all viable and incredibly dynamic to allow a very personal playstyle to develop.

Those are some of the things ive gathered from watching it. Like i said, ive ordered a ps4 for this game now, and from the looks of it i will not be disappointed, hell it seems to exceed all of my expectations.

I got a Psp for freedom unite and a 3ds for 4 ultimate? Anyways They were both good, but those god damn tiny screens get to me. I also cannot wait for the autumn release. Such a long wait in between console/pc release  :(

What's up with the weapon design in this game? It looks straight stupidly absurd, even for Asia.

Everything in monster hunter is so far over the top to the point where it flips around and becomes kind of cool. Designs as far as visuals go are rather unique, very macho or super feminine which is common i suppose but still well designed. And the weapon playstyles are all super unique from each other and other games for that matter, theres always that one weapon you connect with.

Game is real gud so far. Using the Hunting Horn which is probably the least used weapon in the game, but theres something about combining a hammer with playing music in a drunken kung fu style manner that makes it call me. Framerate is as expected quite trash, but i can easily forget about it when its a good game though it does make me eager to play PC version too as it releases.

Best song, basically a bomber ship that seeks you out in high rank missions and either drops bombs on you or straigh up dive bomb kamikazes you. Love me some wyverns hunting YOU.

This is the best monster hunter. If you ever had some interest in the series this one is the one to start with. Price is a bit steep now though, im going to probably pick it up on PC eventually. I havent played the new content (free updates) that have been released since launch so ive got some fresh beasts to bring down.

I didn't ask for it, but that's exactly what I wanted to know. I been wanting to try monster hunter for a longer while now (since I got quite some fans among my friends) and planned to finally get a look at the series with this game. Nice!

I want to get into MH but everytime its just feels like a singleplayer/co-op instanced mmo grinder, very repetitive combat/quests. I heard this new "world" would be different like more open world than mission based, but I put in ~5 hours and felt exactly the same as the older MH I emulated couple years back, but with newer graphics & co-op.

Well that is what the game is, so theres no surprise there. The dynamic combat keeps it interesting to those that enjoy such. The new world is quite a change to what the game has been previously though with multiple small instanced maps. But obviously if you dont enjoy the core concept it wont change that much, it is much more invitable though looking better, and many were put off from the small instanced maps.

Can't wait for this shit. Performance tests are reporting decent frames as well on PC.

-20 fps for the "volume rendering" option though, which from the video just looks to be volumetric fog and imo makes the game look worse even

Well... I got it too cuz I like the idea of rising through ranks not by leveling but by equipment - yet...

I haven't started it yet cuz I am wary of the game and don't wanna waste those 2h of Steam refund :P

I've watched a bunch of videos with newby tips and especially weapon tutorials. Eagerly looking over to the hunting horn cuz I love the idea and will probably suit my role I'd like to take on (for those familiar: I excelled in playing Overlord in Lineage 2). Seems tho that it isn't the best newb weapon...

Anyway, maybe some are willing to take me along for some tutorial hunts once in a while and gimme some good advice...

I'll report back when I actually started the game :D

Edit: Watching videos from this guy a lot...

I beat the game on ps4 with hunting horn. If you can memorize the notes for the songs then you are good to go, eventually you learn to keep the buffs going by using the music as attacks mid fight. Its very satisfying to finish a melody off with smashing a monster into a stun.

I watched th tutorial by the guy I mentioned before with all the encore thing and stuff. There's not even the need to memorize the songs, it seems, since it's displayed in the upper right corner... but yea, useful to know the important ones ofc.

Next choice would probably the the heavy bow gun... or the lance which seems cool as well...

Just hit high rank, i hear people get a lot of dc issues even in single player but i guess im fortunate. Just set my session to private and had 1 error at some point but the rest was clean.

This game is really pushing me to get a new cpu though, i have some trashy settings running for smooth 60 now and its just barely holding on.

Beat Nergigante, now I'm deciding which HR armor I wanna farm before I continue with the Elder Dragons to finish the game. Currently sporting Zorah Magdaros set which was easy to make, but doesn't have the best skills and has a low armor rating.

Title: Re: Monster Hunter World
Post by: Gravoth_iii on August 25, 2018, 04:46:03 am
It is indeed amazing. All it really needs is content updates which they are already making and some are coming out within a month.

What i dream of, and many, others is a G-rank mode, where you truly sort out the weak-willed. Essentially its just a damage sponge thing, but you can be forced to really prepare in this game when something tanks more. In previous titles G ranks have had even higher ranks of armor sets too which would be nice to see obviously, small visual changes but larger stats. Just the end game super hardcore quests, where you really work your nuts off.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter World
Post by: Vibe on August 25, 2018, 10:39:36 am
I find it great that even repeating the same content can be completely fresh just by switching weapon types, since they change the playstyle so drastically.

I currently use Switchaxe as my main, but I also swap to Sword and Shield and sometimes to Heavy Bowgun.

Beat the story final boss now too, it was a very comfortable fight with lance, as most things are. Just sit there and poke 'n parry. Vaal Hazak was a pain tho, next time im bringing some kind of resistance to his bs. Kushala Daora is bae tho, probably my fav. I would hope they add Tigrex or some other iconic monsters, so much potential.

Lol, it was completely opposite for me. I guess it's a matter of what weapon you use but:
Kushala Daora - probably the most annoying, unfun fight ever. Not even difficult, just super frustrating as SnS. I didn't have flash pods either so the fight lasted fucking 45 minutes solo. Every time I got close to Daora I got staggered by wind aura for a few sec, the most I could get in were 2 hits before I got knocked back, or it flew away leaving a massive tornado and then remained in the air for 5 minutes. Horribly designed fight, imo.
Vaal Hazak - Easiest one for me by far. As long as you have some nullberry he barely does anything, his attacks are slow and have fair hitboxes and are easy to dodge.
Teostra - The hardest of the ending Elder Dragon bunch imo (not counting Nerg/Kirin), lots of stuff you gotta be careful of, so many explosions kinda like Bagel goose on steroids. That's disregarding that all the fucking particle effects cause your (good) PC to dip to 30 fps midfight.
Xeno'jiiva - Kinda easy too, visually coolest fight for me. Slow and super projected attacks that are easy to dodge. Most of the time is spent chasing his legs because the guy is huge and when he turns you gotta run for a minute to reach him again. Also seems like he has a massive healthpool so the fight takes a while.

By far the hardest monsters right now are imo Diablos and Nergigante.

I can't wait for all the DLC fights though, especially Behemoth from FFXIV. As someone who has played FFXIV a lot and fought Behemoth there I'm so excited. They pretty much ported it 100% from FFXIV to MHW, including boss mechanics, music, end quest text and even the damage display is the same lol (! for crits and attack name displayed besides it). They even added the Extreme (hardmode) version of it recently.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter World
Post by: Gravoth_iii on August 26, 2018, 05:53:59 pm
Ive heard Behemoth is an absolute monster, perhaps specifically the hardmode version but people say he is insane.

Oh and yeah Kushala can be a bit annoying with the wind stuff, but like u mentioned with different weapons its easy. Lance can parry the initial gust and then basically be immune afterwards.

I keep playing, and feeling like i shouldve been hit by things simply cause i mentally adapted to the previous titles fucked up hitboxes to not lose my sanity. See Plesioth hip check. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsafyoXk88c)

Doing the endgame now, making a meta build. I have a bunch of Rarity 8/9 weapons and a few high rarity boss sets (I like wearing full sets for fashion), but I am gonna try making some actual builds. First one being a Sword and Shield blast build. Gonna need to grind a fuckton of decorations to make it work optimally though, not to mention augmenting that I haven't unlocked yet cuz rng.

Tempered monsters are no joke though, especially threat 2. Haven't unlocked threat 3.

I had the most trouble with Nergigante. It's a bit unintuitive to avoid the body slam attack by staying on the ground and using invulnerability frames instead of getting up to try and get out of the way.

The amount of i-frames you can use from laying on the ground after certain moves etc are pretty damn long. A bit unintuitive true, feels good to once you know of it though. Lots of small little tricks in this game that are really cool to learn about.

My current Sword and Shield build (Teostra's Emblem), based on Blast status effect and Critical.

Build is pretty strong, stolen from youtube.

3 pieces of Zorah Magdaros to get the Zorah Magdaros Mastery which increases Blast buildup when doing critical hits.
Lv3 Weakness Exploit for 50% crit on weak spots. Lv2 Critical Eye for another 6% crit. Latent Power when active increases crit by another 20%. Lv3 Blast attack for added Blast buildup and damage.
Handicraft lv4 just for that sweet sweet white sharpness.

Works together really well, it's like I have a mini Bazelgeuse in my hand. The only shitty thing is that Zorah armor has low armor and I need to augment it to get it to decent armor levels.

Looks pretty dope. I made a 3 piece xeno for the set bonus to reduce sharpness usage, with xeno SnS which are solid. And 2 piece rathalos for elemental damage up on crits, i just need some proper jewels now to extend the sharpness a bit. Maybe i'll make that charm youre using but that means i would lose my Weakness exploit 3, unless i get a jewel.

Not really optimal i believe but i just scratched it together to make something with xeno parts because they look flashy. A bit too flashy, the damn head piece glows so bright with no options of bloom its almost an eyesore.

Next up is a proper support horn set, and then maybe when deviljho is out ill put more focus on lancing again. I gotta get the affinity booster too, shits op.

Weakness exploit jewels are a bitch to get, well at least it was for me. Took a while to get one to finally max that skill. Handicraft charm III is great, BUT you need this https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Research+Commission+Ticket
For this you either need to complete all optional quests or be HR100 - or be lucky enough to find a random guy doing it like me :D

Xeno set is like a disco butterfly. I have the full set crafted and upgraded when I just want to be flashy. It has great armor as well. Doot doot guys are the real heroes in multiplayer. I had two in my last tempered hunt and the buffs were really noticable. Didn't get stunned, took less damage, did more damage, could get up much faster when knocked down.

I heard the molotov is strong combined with palico rally skill. I was considering goofing around with that and my own horn buffing on the cat. Supposedly the cat can basically solo everything then. Getting the cat head piece is tempting enough for me, shit looks absolutely ridiculous.

Havent played the most recent 3ds games, but this dragon seems fun. I really hope they squeeze in some more dragons into world, jet propelled dragons that is.

I kinda just winged it for this one, built from the materials and armor I already had at hand. I have a lot of crit jewels lol...

Anyway: Critical eye for +15% crit boost (to counteract the negative affinity), Weakness exploit for 50% crit on weak spots and the most important, 3 KO jewels for Slugger 3, which gives 30% stun power for full-on face smacking and Elementless jewel for some seriously stupid damage on this hammer:

Deviljho my favourite pickle, i wonder if he still eats his own tail when you cut it off. Cant wait to make his lance.

Finally got to, and beat tempered kirin, shits a mess as melee. First round i got my bunghole split wide open. Second time was relatively smooth tho, lancing that stupid unicorn is nasty but fortunately the attacks are all blockable.

I much prefer melee but Kirin is a bitch if you're melee and that's why I see soooo many ranged users on Tempered Kirin. I'd say 80% of the people in my Tempered Kirin runs were all ranged, just because it makes the fight trivial, if you can dodge his spastic jumps and wide aoe shit he uses.

Kinda doesn't help the dude's only weakpoint is his head and he keeps blasting frontal attacks. It does feel good once you finally get to slam this stupid horses face in with a huge hammer, but he gives very few openings.

Congrats on the kill and be ready for how much people suck at surviving at Tempered Elder Dragons, if you play MP with randoms that is. I usually don't like soloing that much, but the mission with Tempered Vaal + Tempered Odogaron I just had to go solo, because people were carting all the time. Rocksteady Mantle so much value though.

I've learned to generally go solo if it isnt a very lenient mission like 3+ faints. On tier 2 hunts even, its almost like more people die on t2 than on elders.

Downloaded a dps meter now, makes it fun to compete for top damoosh.

I like multiplayer even with randoms, makes things more interesting. Yeah, some people can stupidly cart away a good investigation, but overall I prefer it, especially as a hammer user with boosted stun that the whole team can capitalize on. Though I saw that most higher rank people generally do know what to do on Elder Dragons at least, had some really smooth runs on Teostra and Nergigante for example. Vaal Hazak is still the n00b sl4y3r though.

One of the runs I had a Mushroomancer/Wide-Range support guy on my team, man what a godly build for multiplayer.

I do wide range, rec up and fast eat. Some fights im literally just chugging megas and crafting another 10 to keep people from carting. Its fun but it feels strange to just baby sit people to kill something for me.

Vaal hazak is the easiest dragon ever, i cant believe people die to him. But yeah multiplayer is kind of fun, some quests are just complete beatdowns when good players actually do simple things like flashing.

Yeah, dunno either how people get carted so much on Vaal. Do mind that this is all Tempered elders im talking about so much higher chance to get one shot. Also gotta be careful at what points to flash as its limited to like 3 or 4 per tempered elder. But generally people know the multiplayer “etiquette”: such as saving flashes for stuff like supernovas, not flashing mounted monsters, bringing bombs, wakeup weapon priority etc
