Title: 0 A.D.
Post by: Leshma on January 11, 2013, 01:29:38 am
Yeah, I know I've made a thread in the past about this game but cba to search and necro it. Game isn't finished but it's coming along nicely. Graphics have been improved, there are many new and exciting features since I've tried it last time. For me, this is one of the games I care the most. It's frakkin Age of Empires clone done right! It's funny that this is the only newer game like this and it's free and open source at the same time...

Yeah it's a pretty good game, considering Alpha. Loved AoE2 and this is quite similar. Waiting for more content now.

Wauw this looks amazing.

But this also shows how a small dedicated group can really make good games.

Did they add any bigger maps now? I always enjoyed playing on huge maps with small player count, so there was enough resources and huge bases... Wasn't possible last time I tried 0 A.D., since it forced the number of players depending on the map size, and the maps were 4 players max as well.

So this is free and multiplayer right?

Who is up for a cRPG forumnites match? Haven't played it yet, but seems like a nice classic RTS.

If it's open source, it is necessarily free, just saying.

Looks cool. Strategy games without pauses or turns aint for me though.

Still no random map generator but there's one (maybe more) 6 player map called Peloponese which is decently big (it's south of Greece actually).

I like different shouts for every nation, like the fact that females are usually doing all the heavy lifting , like formations, pathfinding is decent, graphics are ok.

But lag is serious issue, especially when there are too many units on the screen.

I played it a bit today, and I must say the AI is quite difficult. It definitely has its bugs/lag issues though. It also needs some serious optimization to handle all those units. It's also a lot faster paced than aoe, which is good IMO. My games in aoe usually took about an hour, where as the matches in this game takes around 30-40 minutes.

Nothing new from the gameplay point of view, but here is complete soundtrack made for the game so far. I kinda like it so I've decided to share it with you guys. Second track on the list is my favorite

The giant lagissues still remain? If they fixed firsthand I would have played it a lot by now, despite the other bugs.

DAMNIT. First you convert to archer, now you introduce me to this lovely timekiller...

If you go on like that, I am gonna offer you a place in my harem, preferably one of your female personalities ;-)

I downloaded the game tonight and I played an hour. It is not bad but there is still some work to do on the gameplay.
When you have order to many units to move at the same time, it lags. It is not as good as a AoE but for a free to play game
it is nice

Are they ever going to "finish" this game? I can't deal with incomplete games :(

They will, most certainly. Their indiegogo campaign was successful from what I recall.

Ah I remember trying to run this on my linux desktop... failed horribly

edit: I doubt they'll actually *finish* it. I think they'll finish it and keep adding content and tweaking etc.
