I tried NTW recently, after STW2. It was solid but I didn't like the way I had to constantly fight spammed out huge meaningless stacks of soldiers. Getting across the rhineland or low countries against France is just ridiculous.

Really looking forward to Rome 2 where they say there's gonna be less battles, but they will be more significant, and capturing regions will be gradual, and not just about "headshotting" capital cities.

The AI isn't that great, but it can draw a line and march toward you while covering with artillery, which is what I basically do most of the time as well.

I'm also about to lose the campaign. Got no trade routes, because everyone is at war with me. Prussia has about 25 000 troops around Berlin, I got 10 000. Got nothing to defend myself from Russia in Finland, so they can just take it. Also got a French fleet with 10 000 men outside of Stockholm. If they land there I'm done. If they continue to Russia I live another day.

Why are you not using single row formation? Roleplaying reasons or did they finally make a proper mod that makes back rows fire aswell?

1. Unit sizes are too big, so it won't allow me to make single row. (ultra, doubled, line infantry unit is 360 men + 40 unit armies enabled)
2. Roleplaying reasons.
3. With Darthmod you get fire by rank, so the first 3 rows are constantly firing.
4. If I was using single row I wouldn't have space on the map for all of the units. They'd go from end to end.

In the last picture you see the length of my line with only 27 units, and at least 4 ranks per unit. Imagine that with another 10 line infantry and single line. Would be like snake.

France landing next to Stockholm is what killed me. 128 units within striking distance of my cities versus my 33.

Oh, well. New campaign for me! This is the second campaign I've lost in Total War in 9 years of playing. 1st one was in Shogun 2 with the Ninja faction on very hard. :)

That French army at Stockholm is Napoleon, btw.

Just bought the Blood Pack DLC for Shogun 2. As fucked up as it is for them to charge money for blood, man is it awesome. Decapitations, blood everywhere... and the blood even looks good on the armors. Looks like a whole different game, and makes it stand out even more from Rome 2.

Not trying to derail this but...

I downloaded Shogun 2 again yesterday night and fired it up a moment ago, maxed out every graphic setting there is, made a huge custom battle...

...and it ran smooth as silk!

Damn you, Rome 2!

This has never happened to me in Total War. I'm playing Darthmod as Sweden on hard (40 unit armies). I've restarted it three times in the past year, and I just can't survive.

The second a war starts with either Denmark or Russia, the entire world turns on me. I can just about comfortably beat Denmark, and that strains my economy, then Russia attacks me simultaneously and I have no money to defend Finland nor any means to get my army there. And even if I could defeat Denmark and transport my army to Finland I find myself being attacked by Prussia, France, Great Britain and/or Austria and the tons of smaller factions around. I literally don't have the money to defend myself.

I've tried abandoning Finland and focusing on my mainland, but due to me being surrounded by water, enemy navies will enter my territories, that I can't afford to defend and land troops in any point of my empire, and every time the only army I can afford is in southern Denmark defending against full stacks.

This is the only campaign in Total War that has defeated me. Before this I've lost once a Hattori campaign on Very Hard, but otherwise I've never lost anything even when playing on highest difficulties. I'm stumped. I'm happy that it's a challenge, though, since Total War usually isn't. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong.
