You need to express yourself better then. Or, if you're incapable of putting your concerns into words without sounding like a racist have you considered the possibility that maybe you are one?

I jest. Maybe.

If only it was that simple.

I'm just a little intrigued. I've been seeing a lot of the opinions on this forum as reactionary to SJWs and extreme liberals shouting them down constantly and dubbing the poor posters as racists or bigots for their completely reasonable ideals and arguments. That's been the outrage on this forum for the last few years and ofc with my soft liberal views towards non-radical Islam it's something I've never been subjected to.

But we had that gender thread recently and I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything folk were saying, but there were still the same people saying "You cant say that irl otherwise you'll be called a bigot" and I'm just there thinking "err... I never got that memo and have been making these arguments constantly irl and it's always been fine".

Ofc I cant tell how those posters attempt to put forwards their viewpoints irl, only how they do it online. I've never had to live in fear of making arguments irl, so it fascinates me. Before I assumed it was because my 'liberal' views on Islam were not dangerous enough, but according to this forum my view on the gender spectrum is just as 'bigoted'. Just makes me wonder, and as usual evaluate the picture painted by this forum. Can I borrow one of your opinions for a day and have it in public? Ofc we all live in different places, different social circles, different workplaces etc.

Discussing things IRL is a bit of a different story, i like talking about politics but most do not and so i try to stay away from it as a subject with friends and family etc. Many collegues have shared similar opinions with me though, and i am seeing how they are unfortunately gradually becoming hostile towards immigrants, probably because they are bottling up their opinions. You can clearly see the racist stamp being flinged out by media, social media and politicians. I think the efforts to censor and constantly flame the "racist party" in turn create hostility because people feel they are not properly represented.

When i have spoken to my family about it though, the have usually been afraid to agree or consider immigration politics as something that may not be very beneficial to Sweden in the way its being handled. But after a bit they do speak out and share similar views, almost as if they have realised they can speak of it safely with me.

Oh media, social media and politicians? Those things exist in such a way that at least half is guaranteed to exist solely to demonise whatever world-view you may have.

But about daily interaction with people, I think maybe it's a bit of a stretch or exaggeration to talk about living in fear of being called these things, at least in most of the places we are from. Most of us can still have opinions and talk about them as long as you talk like an ordinary human being. Ofc you don't just run up to people and start politicking in their face against their will, but someone who's ok to talk about it then sure have at it.

The media's a hell of a thing, its many narratives can easily tring you along. Close to the Brexit vote I was out with my mates on a weeknight and none of us wanted to talk politics cos we'd each been convinced we were the only ones with our opinions and would be shouted down. Slowly and cautiously it turned out we were all likeminded, but unless you talk in the open you don't know these things.

Censorship is counterproductive. For viewpoints that don't incite violence it flies counter to free speech. For viewpoints that do it's like covering a disease with a bandage, it still exists and thrives you've just hidden it from view. But at the same time, morally if a group or an individual are trying to break the peace a government wouldn't be fulfilling their obligations very well to simply stand back and let that happen. And ultimately who draws that line and can they get it right every time? All questions that are too rich for my blood.

In person it is indeed a different thing. From my perspective it is not such an extreme environment to not be able to speak about things openly without people shouting racist, bigot or anything similar. If people say so theyve had som drastically different experiences from me. Just like people are making the image of Sweden look like som sharia law hell hole, but we are still faaaar better off than almost any other place in the world.
It is the social media that is the scary place now to express ideas though, witch hunts are created, and de-friending based on some quick assumption of other peoples political ideologies.

The good thing about these truck attacks is that they're completely harmless to anyone with a bit of situational awareness. Objectively much less scary than bombs. If you get driven over by a truck you have to be completely ignorant of the world around you.

You guys obviously haven't heard the wise teachings of Cuckstin Trudeau. If the terrorists kill us then we win because they have resorted to violence.

We don't take in that many, they are fairly well screened and we take a majority of women and children.

Still the current government is not as thorough with screening as the previous.

Newspapers and people are starting to care about the immigration now suddenly, it only took a terror attack for them to realise it. We take in refugees before background checking them at all, then we keep little check on them, and if they get denied residence they can just run away like the one who now drove the truck.

Far-right anti-immigration party, the Sweden Democrats polled 27,2% in latest poll. Progress!

After the terror attack theyre probably going to get a crapton more votes. But far-right? I always considered them only a bit right of the center.

You're right, I have a tendency to buy into MSM's agenda. These days anything anti-globalism (was hijacked by the "far"-left?) and anti-immigration is seen as far-right to right wing extremists.
